As part of today's Pixel 4a festivities, Google has snuck in a few other announcements as well. On top of the expansion of Live Caption, the snazzy new Assistant that debuted with the Pixel 4 is getting support for four more languages — eventually. German, French, Spanish, and Italian will all be getting the faster on-device version "soon."

After launching with a tons of little restrictions, the new Google Assistant interface is spreading to more and more devices. It's no longer restricted to US English, has added Japanese support, and doesn't require gesture navigations anymore. Another limitation is now slowly being abolished: incompatibility with G Suite accounts.

New Pixel 4 Google Assistant is rolling out support for three-button navigation

The Pixel 4 launched with a few innovative features, among them a new version of Google Assistant that integrates much tighter with the system than older implementations. After its initial release, some issues quickly arose, though. You couldn't use the new Assistant with G Suite accounts or with languages other than English, and you had to activate gesture navigation to get it to work. While G Suite users and non-English speakers are still left in the cold, the rethought Assistant finally supports the tried-and-true three-button navigation.

Google's making it stupidly difficult to access the new Assistant if you use a G Suite account

That gesture navigation prerequisite won't be the only issue preventing some folks from using the next-gen Google Assistant on the Pixel 4. Turns out, it also won't work on the device if you are signed into a G Suite account — not just as your primary account, but at all. That means those of us using a G Suite account on the side for school or the day job will have to use a separate work profile as a workaround for now, though Google tells us it is actively working on a fix.
