[Deal Alert] Nest Cam Is $170 From All Retailers, Nest Thermostat And Protect Bundle $50 Off On Nest's Store

Let's face it, the new Nest Cam wasn't probably on your Black Friday radar because the cost of the unit is hardly in its hardware, but in the somewhat needed Nest Aware subscription. If you're willing to put down $100-300 per year on that, a few saved bucks here and there won't make that much of a difference. But since we're thrifty people and we think every dollar counts, we'll tell you about this Nest Cam discount anyway.

The Wi-Fi connected security camera has dropped to $170 on every online retailer's store: Nest Store, Google Store, Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and Walmart.

2nd Gen Nest Protect Smoke Alarm Is Now Up For Pre-Order (Ships Next Month) From Nest, Google, And Amazon—Old One Drops By $20 In The Google Store

Today Nest has unveiled the second generation of its Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. It will retail for the same $100 as the previous model, and it comes with a number of fixes intended to address the flaws of the first model.

The big new feature is the ability to silence an alarm using the companion app. Other additions include a sensor that can tell the difference between fast and slow fires and a humidity sensor that should prevent the device from going off due to steam. If you have a soon-to-be-released Nest Cam in the same room, the companion app will let you quickly get a view of what's going on once the alarms sound off.

Nest And Nest Protect Launch In Belgium And The Netherlands On Google Play

For folks who like to stay on the cutting edge of technology (which I assume includes you, since you're reading an Android blog), thermostats and smoke alarms don't get much cooler than the Nest and Nest Protect. They're Internet-connected, which is great because reasons. They can talk to your mobile device, which is all any gadget really needs to do to be considered smart (since many of us do less talking on our smartphones these days, does that make us dumber?). And now they're available in the Play Store for sophisticated shoppers in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Dropcam App Gets Updated With Support For Nest Thermostat And Smoke Alarm

Back in June, Dropcam announced that it had been purchased by Nest (and, by relation, Google). It's been a few months since that happened, and it looks like the first signs of that merger are now taking place, starting with Nest integration in the Dropcam Android app.

Dropcam now works with both the Nest Protect Smoke + Carbon Monoxide detector and Nest Thermostat, and will provide different levels of feedback according to settings and the device. For example, if Nest Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide, Dropcam will automatically record and save the clip, regardless of whether or not the user pays for Cloud Recording.

Nest Giving Out $33/£20 Credit To People Who Purchased A Nest Protect Before June 15th

The Nest Protect made its Play Store debut recently, yet this was far from its first appearance. The device originally launched last fall, but following the discovery of a safety issue, Nest recalled it a couple of months ago. The company then pushed out an update that fixed previously sold units. Now it's also giving out $33/£20 to people who purchased a Nest Protect prior to June 15th. This should make up for the $30 price drop that accompanied the re-release of the device.

To qualify for the credit, owners need to have purchased their Nest Protect before June 15th, paired it to a Nest account, connected to the internet since April 4th, and not have previously requested a credit.

Nest Labs Brings The Smoke Detector Into The 21st Century With 'Protect'

If you're familiar with the brand name Nest Labs, then you already know that this company basically changed the way the common household thermostat works with its Nest Thermostat. Now it wants to do the same thing for another household necessity: the smoke/carbon monoxide detector. This new offering, dubbed Nest Protect, is a sleek, sexy looking box that replaces the tired old white disk currently attached to your ceiling.

1[4]

Like the Nest Thermostat, Protect is a smart product – instead of just sounding its alarm at full blast when the slightest hint of smoke arises (like, you know, when burning cooking food), it will give a subtle "heads-up" and you need only wave your hands around it to let it know that everything is OK.
