Nokia launches four smartphones at MWC: the 1, 6 (2018), 7 Plus, and 8 Sirocco

HMD Global had a good first year making Nokia-branded phones. In 2017, the Finnish company sold 70 million devices across its portfolio of six different Android smartphones and other low-cost feature phones such as the throwback Nokia 3310. HMD is confident of an even better 2018, starting with the launch of four new (well, mostly new) Android phones at MWC in Barcelona.

Before we even get to the new devices, perhaps the headline announcement is that starting with these phones all Nokia releases will be part of the Android One program (with the exception of its first Android Go phone).

Huawei confirms triple lens P20 will launch on March 27 in Paris

Huawei's presence at MWC seems to be a bit less than years past, aside from the new MediaPad tablets and Matebook X Pro ultrabook (the latter looks really nice, but that's outside of our wheelhouse here at AP). However, the Chinese manufacturer has decided to let Samsung have all of the attention this year in Barcelona, and instead hold its own event in Paris at the end of March. What is Huawei planning to do, you might ask? Announce the newest member of the P family, the P20.

[Update x2: Leaked photo] LG reportedly working on updated V30 with more storage and AI-powered 'LG Lens'

The LG V30 was somewhat of a mixed bag. It had a fantastic design, with excellent camera performance, a microSD card slot, wireless charging, and even a headphone jack. Unfortunately, the OLED screen suffered from quality issues, and the $830 asking price likely kept many potential buyers away. LG could be working on a slightly-upgraded version, according to a new report from ET News.

[Update: More images] Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact leaked with new design and 18:9 screens

For better or for worse, Sony has stuck to the same phone design for years at this point. While I personally don't mind the design, it has started to show its age over the past year or two with the advent of 18:9 phones and small bezels. We've been hearing rumors that Sony's next flagships would be a radical departure in terms of design, and now that has been confirmed with a new leak from VentureBeat.

First Android Go phones will be announced next week at MWC

Android Go was announced almost a year ago, at Google I/O 2017. It's a modified version of Android, designed to function better on low-end hardware (think 512MB phones). Google said the first Go phones would ship in 2018, and even though several Go apps have been released on the Play Store, no devices have hit the market yet.

LG announces new K8 and K10 phones, with improved cameras and outdated software

LG may be having difficulties with its flagship phones, but the company's budget devices have always sold well. LG has produced various inexpensive phones under the 'K' brand since 2016, and at Mobile World Congress, it will show off 2018 versions of the K8 and K10.

More Samsung Galaxy S9 renders leak, confirming design, stereo speakers, and camera apertures

As with most high-profile upcoming smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S9 has seen its fair share of leaks as we approach its official unveiling at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. In recent weeks, we've learned that the Galaxy S9 and its bigger brother the S9+ will have iterative designs, be available in lilac and coral blue, come with 3D Emojis similar to the iPhone X, and we've already seen that the marketing around them will be focused on the camera(s).

The latest leaks come in the form of a range of official-looking renders, likely intended for a stockist's website.

Samsung sends out press invite for Galaxy S9 unveil at MWC, boasts about 'reimagined' camera

As it does with every major flagship and smartwatch release, Samsung has just sent out a press invite for the Galaxy S9's unveiling. You'll note that the invitation doesn't explicitly mention the S9, but given the gigantic purple "9," it's safe to say we know what Samsung will be taking the wraps off of.
