TWRP, short for TeamWin Recovery Project, is the most popular custom recovery available for Android devices. It can flash ROMs, backup and restore your phone, and even repair Android installations. In the two months since we last covered TWRP, the project has added nine more phones to the roster of supported devices.
After rolling out Android 9 Pie to the Mi A2 a couple of weeks ago, Xiaomi is now following up with the same update for its cheaper sibling, the Mi A2 Lite. The OTA for the stable release is starting to show up for users around the world, only two weeks after Xiaomi began testing it in beta.
The stable release of Android 9 Pie appears to be going out to Xiaomi Mi A2 handsets right now. It includes lots of the features Pixel phones have now had for some time, including adaptive battery, gesture navigation (crap though it may be), and app actions.
Very few smartphone makers can eke out as much value from a device as Xiaomi. We often look at the company's line-up and wonder how small its margins must be if it can delivery such high specs at such low prices. This is especially true of the low-end and mid-range market, where others scramble to offer minimum usable specs and Xiaomi's devices are impressively better.
The Android One program has been somewhat revitalized in the last year or so, with HMD Global, in particular, releasing a number of Nokia branded phones with the purest form of Android. Xiaomi's Mi A1 led the way, however, launching with impressive specs for a phone costing just $230.
Despite a few hardware issues, bugs, and very late updates, Xiaomi's Mi A1 has been a great success for the company. Now, Xiaomi is ready to unveil its two successors: the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Both will be announced at an event in Spain on July 24.
