Let's think about filters for a moment. They are immensely useful, allowing users to direct (junk) mail from particular senders to the appropriate location (the trash) or apply the correct label (stuff to ignore). Gmail has had the ability to create and manage filters for years, but its app hasn't. In fact, it still lacks this functionality. Yahoo, on the other hand, has rolled the feature into the latest release of its Android app, version 2.6.

Earlier this year, UPS Mobile received a big bump in functionality, which was a nice change for an Android app that really didn't have to do all that much. The app puts tracking information front and center, as it should. Why else does anyone even check UPS online?

With all of those Christmas gifts and family gatherings come loads of trash that need to be tossed out the day after. The same can be said for email. An update for the Outlook Android app landed today that introduces a handful of substantial features, the most notable of which is server-side search. This new functionality allows you to search through all of your email, even messages that aren't on your phone. But Microsoft must have doubts about the app's reliability, because they've included a link to search for more messages at outlook.com if things don't work out.
If you still rather have a copy stored on your phone, the option to download all mail is now in place as well.
