This will surprise nobody: Luxury phone maker Vertu is in trouble

For anyone who understandably hasn't heard of it, Vertu is the previously Nokia-owned luxury smartphone maker that tries to convince celebrities and the super rich to shell out up to $50,000 on extravagant devices made from materials such as sapphire and platinum. Vertu phones have tended to be ugly and underpowered, and its business model seems to rely on the adage that wealthy people love to decorate themselves with expensive, superficial accessories. It would appear that even those with money to burn still prioritize a decent smartphone experience, however, and Vertu may be finding that out the hard way.

Lyft introduces new Lyft Lux and Lyft Lux SUV black car service

Today Lyft has announced two new black car options for the ridesharing service. They are called, perhaps unimaginatively, Lyft Lux and Lyft Lux SUV. As the names imply, each of the services is meant to be a bit more luxurious than the standard fare. If you are familiar with the term "black car," that's what you can expect: a high-end literally black luxury car manned by a capable driver.

The Montblanc Summit is another luxury Android Wear watch, starting at $890

Tag Heuer recently announced a new absurdly-expensive Android Wear watch, the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 (that's a mouthful). Now Montblanc, a well-known German manufacturer for luxury watches and other items, has announced its first smartwatch - the Summit.

Available in a variety of cases and straps, the Summit reminds me a bit of the LG G Watch Urbane in terms of design. It's definitely a large watch, with a case diameter of 46mm. While on the topic of design, even though it looks like the Summit has a digital crown, that's just a button.

As for the hardware, it's rocking a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

TAG Heuer's Android Wear Watch Is Called The Connected, Costs $1500 With Sapphire Glass, A Titanium Body, And 1GB Of RAM

TAG Heuer has now officially announced the most expensive smartwatch running Android Wear, which means (by the infallible logic of luxury watch enthusiasts) that it's also the best. To be fair, in terms of materials and technical hardware, the TAG Heuer Connected probably is the best Wear device at the moment: it uses a new-to-Wear 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and 1GB of RAM, along with 4GB of storage and a 410mAh battery. That means it should be faster than most current Wear devices, and with double the memory, it might have significantly better performance. It had better: TAG's suggested price and the going rate on the online store is a whopping $1500.

Vertu's New Ridiculously Expensive Phone Finally Isn't Ridiculously Underpowered

Vertu's super-premium phones have always been a curiosity on the internet. They occupy a very odd little niche with their distinctive, angular design and luxury materials, but they've also been woefully behind in the spec department. Vertu's latest phone, the $9,000-19,000 Signature Touch, has much more respectable internals. It's still stupidly expensive, though.

DUFL Is A Non-Fictional Service That Cleans, Stores, And Ships Your Clothing For You While Traveling And Is Now On Android

The advent of technology and the booming Silicon Valley scene doesn't only benefit the masses, but also helps spawn incredibly niche and boutique services. Are you sick of packing your own suitcase, cleaning your own clothes, and taking it all with you on your many trips around the country? Well, if you're willing to pay a hefty price, DUFL will take care of all these things for you and now can do so via a new Android app.

I can't decide if this is solving a problem that doesn't exist or if DUFL just solves a real problem in a really inefficient way.

Report: TAG Heuer's Android Wear-Powered Watch Is Scheduled For October Or November With A $1400 Price TAG

Does the lack of $1000+ status symbols available for the Android Wear market really get you down? If it does, then start saving your pennies now. According to Bloomberg, TAG Heuer and its owner LVMH intend to release a luxury smartwatch in either October or November of this year, with a price tag expected to be around $1400. That's much, much more expensive than even the priciest Android Wear devices to date, about entry-level for a TAG watch, and approximately one tenth the price of the most expensive Apple Watch.

Like this, but with pixels.

We've heard that TAG Heuer intends to release a smartwatch in partnership with Google and Intel, making it the first of the Swiss luxury brands to jump on an established wearable platform.
