OnePlus appears to have silently and slightly upgraded some OnePlus 8Ts. Reports indicate that some recently purchased versions of the phone are now shipping with LPDDR5 RAM, a bump over the LPDDR4X RAM originally included and which OnePlus advertises. While the newer memory is technically "faster," the bigger effect is on enthusiasts that might be rooting and ROMing.
At the 2019 Samsung Tech Day event that took place yesterday, Samsung unveiled new upcoming IPs that will likely be integrated into its flagship phones next year. The stars of the show were the Exynos 990 SoC, Exynos 5123 5G modem, and new LPDDR4X memory. The synergy created by these components is meant to improve the many aspects of our mobile-centric lives.
Smartphones are growing increasingly powerful and are boasting faster processors, larger storage, and greater memory. Nine years ago, the first Galaxy S shipped with just 512MB of RAM, but the capacity on smartphones has evolved to reach a minimum of 6GB on the S10e. It looks like these numbers will continue to expand, as Samsung just announced it's begun mass-producing its new LPDDR4X 12GB DRAM chip.
