Plex Live TV and DVR is out of beta and available for Android

It wasn't too long ago that Plex showed off its new Live TV feature, which you can read about here. That was just a beta, with a limited number of supported platforms (Android TV, iOS, and Plex web). However, that feature is growing up and ready for prime time, coming with full Android support, too.

Hulu launches new UI and Live TV Beta on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Hulu may not be as big of a name in the industry as it once was, but its subscriber count is still in the octuples. It's also still working on new features, such as an updated user interface and Live TV beta that hit Android, iOS, Apple TV, Xbox One, and Chromecast two months ago. Now, those two things have hit the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.

[Update: It's now live in all 10 locations] YouTube TV will be expanding to 10 more markets soon

When YouTube TV was announced a few months ago, it was off to a slow start and limited to a few markets. Our very own Ryan had to do some tomfoolery to get it to work in his hometown so he could write up his thoughts. In the beginning, this initiative was available only to customers in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Hulu adds live and on demand access to HBO and Cinemax, just in time for new Game of Thrones

Hulu adds live and on demand access to HBO and Cinemax, just in time for new Game of Thrones

Video streaming app Hulu has recently made great strides in its attempts to catch up with other similar services like Netflix. In the last few months, it's added profiles to support individual watch histories and introduced Google Home integration. It's also got live TV now, and you can read our thoughts about that in our recent review. No streaming service would be complete without quality shows and movies, and with that in mind, Hulu has now added HBO and Cinemax to its burgeoning list of content partners.

Plex Live TV is now available for all Plex Pass subscribers, tuner required

Back in September, Plex DVR launched, giving you the ability to record and save any broadcasts that your HDHomeRun tuner and antenna had picked up. It was a Plex fan/cord cutter's dream. But now to sweeten things further, Plex has announced Live TV, which will be available to all Pass subscribers at no extra charge.

Hands-on with Hulu TV: Great, but I'm confused about the audience

Hands-on with Hulu TV: Great, but I'm confused about the audience

Some of you might know that Hulu rolled out a Live TV service to their existing streaming platform. I've spent a bit of time checking it out (if you do things right, kids, watching TV can be work) and I think I'm in a good position to provide a reasonably educated opinion on the service. Overall, I'm a bit confused about who, exactly, it's for.

[Update: Live Channels update is... well, live] HDHomeRun and Google team up to bring live channel DVR to Android TV [APK Download]

BitTorrent Live launches its live TV streaming app on Android

BitTorrent Live launches its live TV streaming app on Android

BitTorrent has been expanding its p2p services to add music and video streaming, file synchronization, and more. One of its newest efforts is BitTorrent Live, a special take on live TV streaming that focuses on live events, news, and sports, and uses a proprietary p2p live streaming protocol to avoid the latency of HTTP Live Streaming.

BitTorrent Live started as available on TVs (Apple TV, FireTV) and Macs in mid 2016, then was released on iTunes for iPhones and iPads in December of 2016, and it's now on the Play Store for Android devices. The channel selection is limited (you can see some of the launch channels here, more have been added since) but you'll find NASA TV, France 24, Newsmax, QVC, and more.

Time Warner Cable Updates Live Streaming App With A New Look And UI Tweaks In Version 4.0

Time Warner Cable Updates Live Streaming App With A New Look And UI Tweaks In Version 4.0

The Time Warner Cable app is somewhat of a luxury reserved exclusively for paying customers. Like competing TV subscription add-ons, it provides the ability to watch shows on your Android device and a way to control the tube other than reaching for the remote. Version 4.0 updates the experience with a new look.

The changes may require a double take. The toolbar remains largely the same, with Live TV, Guide, DVR Manager, and On Demand spread across the top. The user interface tucked away under each category has received an overhaul. Things are flatter now. It's not material, but it's more Lollipop-y than Gingerbread-y.

Xfinity TV Go Update Delivers Over A Dozen New Live Channels And Better Video Quality

Xfinity TV Go Update Delivers Over A Dozen New Live Channels And Better Video Quality

For people who have a Comcast cable subscription, the Xfinity TV Go app is quite the nice piece of software. Rather than just providing shows for immediate streaming, which is less groundbreaking these days than it used to be, Comcast provides quite a few channels for live streaming. Now many more networks are available, including A&E, Cooking Channel, DIY, Food Network, HGTV, History Channel, MUN2 (companion to Telemundo), Sprout, Starz, TBS, TRUtv, TNT, and the Travel Channel. Aside from missing CBS, March Madness is pretty much covered.

Unfortunately, the experience could still be much better. There's no channel line-up, and the name of the currently playing network is about as much information as you're going to get.
