The LG Wing's final form is apparently a super-cute custom gaming console
Chopping off the LG Wing's swiveling screen leaves a tiny, square display that's just perfect for gaming
When the LG Wing debuted in 2020, it was clear that this imaginative, innovative handset would either utterly transform our expectations for phones going forward, or it would — well, let's just leave it at “LG gave up on making smartphones entirely.” But for as weird a legacy as this phone had, complete with starring in a bizarre pandemic movie, it's what we've seen modders do with the hardware after its death that has really been interesting. Someone had already turned the Wing's smaller screen into a stand-alone phone, and now we're seeing it adapted as a custom gaming console.
Someone just turned the LG Wing's secondary screen into a standalone phone
We're just as confused as you are
Over the course of the last few years, we've seen some awesome smartphone mods. Like that one time someone managed to put a working headphone jack on an iPhone, or when someone installed a USB-C port on another Apple handset. However, there are other mods that are equally impressive feats but leave us with a lot of questions, and this is probably one of those: Someone managed to take apart last year's famously niche LG Wing smartphone (with its unique dual-screen set-up), and make a whole phone out of its smaller, secondary panel, because why not?
Will your LG phone get an Android 11 or 12 update?
Here's a list of all the promises LG made after exiting the phone business

I never thought I'd see LG shut its mobile division before Sony or HTC, but here we are. The South Korean company officially announced its exit from the smartphone market a few days ago. While the company wasn't explicit about the software support situation at the time, some details have emerged since.
When LG shut down its mobile division last week, a few details remained unclear about its existing products. We initially speculated that the latest flagships should be in for at least another big upgrade to Android 12, but now LG has shed some light on its plans going forward. It pledges to update most of its flagships for up to three years.
LG support site details a very pokey Android 11 update plan
Some phones have a timeline as late as Q4 2021
So far, the only notable LG devices we've seen updated to Android 11 are the V60 and the Velvet (in South Korea, anyway). According to a support page on LG's German site, a few more phones will get the big software bump ... just don't expect them to be especially timely. Why would you, at this point?
Pixel 5 and LG Wing are getting a free 5G C-band upgrade
More of those five gee megahertz courtesy of band n77 support
The Pixel 5 and LG Wing don't have too much in common — outside maybe the fact that neither will sell very well — but both phones are going to get a 5G-related upgrade. FCC documents indicate that both Google and LG have been granted permission for the phones to access the new 5G Band n77 freed up as part of the C-band auction. With nothing more than a software update, both devices can connect to the new 5G frequency once US carriers start using it.
The LG Rollable will go on sale in 2021
An LG spokesperson confirmed that we won't have to wait too long for it

LG isn't making the best-selling smartphones these days, but we have to admit that the South Korean company does have a flair for thinking out of the box, as we've seen with unorthodox models like the LG Wing. While so far we haven't seen any phones with foldable displays like Samsung or Motorola produce, today we're checking out a possible step in that direction with the Rollable concept phone LG just teased at CES 2021.
LG Wing receives system update with new screen-swapping features
Making the most of the Wing's two screens
The LG Wing is one of the weirder phones released lately, with a swiveling design that yields two usable screens (though one is smaller than the other). LG is still working on new ways to utilize the dual-display layout, and now an update going out to Verizon subscribers includes some of the company's new ideas.
LG Wing: Best deals, pricing, trade-in values, and availability
You've got three places to buy this oddball
Whatever you have to say about the LG Wing — we've certainly had our say here at Android Police — it's certainly a one-of-a-kind machine. From today, you've got a total of three places where you can buy this screen-swiveling phone in the United States and we have all the details.
Phones have gotten boring in the last few years, but things are getting weird again, and thank goodness. I have been doing this long enough to remember the last time phones got weird—I've reviewed phones with spring-loaded keyboards, tablet docks, curved bodies, and all manner of multi-screen configurations. After settling on the flat glass slab form factor, OEMs are finally starting to take more risks. No phone better exemplifies this trend than the LG Wing. While LG has been pushing dual-screen accessories for a while, the Wing is the first modern LG phone that integrates a second screen in the handset. The configuration is, well... it swivels.
LG officially revealed its weird swivel-screened phone last month, dubbed the LG Wing. It's one of the more interesting takes on a dual-screen device we've seen yet, though the $999 price is a lot to pay for an unproven form factor. Thankfully, with AT&T selling the phone, there's a chance you could pay a bit less money.

Earlier this month, we learned that Verizon was beginning to roll out access to its low-band 5G network. Dubbed "5G Nationwide," the expanded connectivity is now rolling out to a number of 5G-capable devices, including phones from LG like the crazy new Wing device.
LG's weird swivel-screened Wing is official, complete with a pop-up selfie cam
Taking flight on Verizon first
Following leak upon leak (and a pre-announcement), LG finally made one of its weirdest smartphones yet official during a live event. The LG Wing is a dual-screen handset with a swiveling mechanism — you can rotate its display by 90 degrees, revealing another smaller one underneath it. LG hopes that this unique form factor will help with multitasking, like when you're navigating in your car while listening to music or watching a video while chatting with friends. To make it even more unique, LG has also added a pop-up selfie cam.

The secondary screen swings out when you need to be a multitasking champ

While much of the smartphone industry looks to folding screens for the future of handset design, LG sure seems to have different tastes. Though LG phones have long had secondary displays in some form, the last few have stepped that up with full-size Dual Screen accessories. Earlier this year we heard about a new effort that would try something else entirely — now a short video of this alleged LG Wing has surfaced, giving us a look at a rotating dual-screen phone that’s unlike anything else out there.
