I love writing anything and everything, and since I get tons of ideas when I only have my phone with me, I need an excellent writing app on my phone. For more than 6 years, I've used JotterPad, Android's best writing app, to do so. I've sung the app's praises in 2014, was still enamored with it in 2018, and still can't find a decent replacement to it in 2020. So yes, this article is personal, and I'm fuming because JotterPad switched to a subscription model for cloud sync without a single warning or any clear communication to its existing users who paid for a one-time unlock.

JotterPad ranks high on my priority list of apps to install on any device I use and has been occupying that place for at least 3 years. It's an amazing text writer and editor that does everything I've wanted: .txt file synchronization with Dropbox or Google Drive to keep notes updated across multiple platforms, undo/redo, find, markdown support, Bluetooth keyboard shortcuts, night mode, and then some. Snapshots to go back to a previous version of a document, dictionary with a rhymes and thesaurus functionality, multiple fonts and preset looks, exporting in different file formats, and so on, JotterPad has it all.

I love JotterPad. I've said it before, but I thought I'd preface with this disclaimer and then convince you why you should love it too. I'm not in the business of coercing anyone, but I think we'd all be better off if we did more writing, be it regular note taking, prose, poetry, journaling, or anything that involves putting a series of words in an order that makes sense with a decent serving of imagery and correct grammar sprinkled on top.

If words are your passion too, then you'll be happy to know that JotterPad X dumped its Roman numeral and got a kick up to JotterPad 11.
