BlackBerry accidentally publishes details about DTEK60, could be based on unannounced, upgraded Alcatel Idol 4S

Earlier this year, BlackBerry released the DTEK50, a rebadged Alcatel Idol 4 with some extra BlackBerry security software on it. That phone didn't fare too well with critics. Now, the security-crazy company has mistakenly published the specs of the DTEK60, which looks to be a plus-sized, upgraded DTEK50. For what it's worth, the URL of the DTEK60's specifications page includes "donotpublish.html".

Alcatel Idol 4S review: Too much money for too little phone

Last year, Alcatel made its first real foray into the US unlocked smartphone market with the Idol 3. That phone cost $249, but at the time, offered quite a bit for the money. A large 5.5" 1080p display (with a fairly good LCD panel), dual front-facing speakers, no real bloatware to speak of, LTE, solid cameras (13MP/8MP), and a microSD card slot. High on features, low on price may as well have been the tagline for the Idol 3, and while it was at times excruciatingly slow owing to its Snapdragon 615 chipset, I found it an overall good value proposition.

BlackBerry announces $299 DTEK50 Android phone, but it's just a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4

BlackBerry is sticking with this Android thing despite sales for its first phone not being particularly stellar. Now, there's a second BlackBerry Android phone, the DTEK50. Unlike the PRIV, this one is mid-range and costs just $299. Also unlike the PRIV, it doesn't look like BlackBerry designed or built this one. The DTEK50 is a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4.

The New Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4 And 4S Are Packaged Inside A VR Headset

MWC 2016 is set to begin in just two days, and Alcatel has now officially unveiled its two new flagships: the OneTouch Idol 4 and the OneTouch Idol 4S. Both phones show off the best Alcatel has to offer — with their premium build and latest generation specs — but one of the more unexpected features of the new OneTouch Idols may actually be the packaging of the phones. This might not be entirely new to most of our readers, but the box in which both the Idol 4 and Idol 4S come in doubles as a virtual reality headset.

During our hands-on time with both phones, we also had the chance to play around with the VR viewer: it's a lot like Google Cardboard but, well, without the cardboard part.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4S Packaging Will Allegedly Morph Into A Google Cardboard Viewer

Alcatel's unannounced Idol 4S and Idol 4 leaked via its own website recently, but it's not just the phones that are important this time; the packaging is also of note. According to Evan "@evleaks" Blass at Venture Beat, the Idol 4S packaging will double as a Google Cardboard viewer.

Unannounced Alcatel Idol 4 And 4S Leak In [Lots Of] Detail On Support Site Ahead Of Launch

It looks like Alcatel's MWC launch plans have been spoiled a bit, based on a couple of leaked support pages on the company's website just tipped to us. The Idol 4 and 4S follow up the rather nice Alcatel Idol 3 with beefed-up specifications all around. Though we don't have much in the way of visuals, we do have a lot of information.

The Idol 4 and 4S will have 5.2 and 5.5" screens, respectively, with the 4S clearly being the up-market device of the two. It has a brand-new Snapdragon 652 octacore processor, Quad HD Super AMOLED display, 3000mAh battery, and 16MP camera with dual-tone flash and something called an "8MP slow motion sub-camera" - whatever that means (maybe it's referring to front-facing).
