Marshmallow isn't just for new or expensive phones. Okay, it mostly is, but two unlikely devices on T-Mobile are getting updates to Android 6.0 today anyway. The HTC One M8 and LG G Stylo are both heading to Marshmallow town.
Verizon Wireless has announced that Android 6.0 is on its way to the Galaxy Note 5. That makes this the first Marshmallow-packing over-the-air update to hit the Note 5 in the US. Verizon has beat AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile to the punch. This is also the first Galaxy device on Verizon's network to make the leap.
HTC has promised relatively speedy Marshmallow updates for the flagship One devices, but that's not as simple as flipping a switch. Even when the goods are ready to go, the company still must get the software out to numerous variants running in different countries across the world.
The nice thing about schedules is sticking to them. HTC promised Marshmallow would come to some of its devices starting by the end of 2015, and so far the company is keeping its word. Android 6.0 came to the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition early last month, and now HTC Product Manager Mo Versi says the regular unlocked M8 will get the goods within the next 24 hours.
Once upon a time, Google got together with OEMs to sell Google Play Edition versions of flagship phones. They were expensive, but here we are in late 2015 and the 2014 HTC One M8 GPE just got Marshmallow. The regular M8? Good luck with that.
HTC has been experimenting with alternative revenue streams lately, and it was already walking a fine line. Ads started showing up in BlinkFeed a few weeks ago, but users could disable them. Now a large number of One M8 and M9 users have been served an ad in the notification shade. It was promoting a Fantastic Four movie theme, and people are not happy at all.
With Twitter's replies being hidden away from most of a person's followers unless they go hunting for them, it's easy to miss important details from company execs when they are written in answer to a user's question. But thanks to the eagle eyes of some readers, we discovered a tweet from Mo Versi that confirmed an Android M update to his company's 2014 flagship.

- The old listing expired, but a new one just popped up in case you're still looking to grab a discounted M8.
Now that the HTC One M9 is out, maybe you've decided that, you know what, the M8 wasn't so bad after all. Sure, the M9 has more megapixels, but it isn't all that different.

The Google Play Edition program seems to have been mostly forgotten by Google and its hardware partners, but at least those devices that were released are still getting steady updates. The latest one to be blessed with Android 5.1 is HTC's One M8 Google Play Edition from last year. Users are reporting that the over-the-air update is heading out now, so check your Settings menu if you happen to own one.
OK, so maybe HTC's 2015 flagship isn't exactly sizzling hot (in the figurative sense, anyway). If you're in Europe, you'll soon have a less expensive option that has a lot in common with last year's model. HTC has announced the One M8s, a re-heated (sorry) take on the original One M8 from 2014. It's almost identical to its predecessor, both inside and outside, save for two major changes: the processor and the camera.
The HTC One M9 is official. It's coming. The big carriers will offer it. We have a date.
Sprint approved the HTC One M8 Lollipop update a few weeks ago, and now you can install the full system image manually on the off chance something went wrong with the OTA. You'll need a computer with the proper drivers set up, but it's better than not getting the update at all.
It's no mystery HTC is preparing to announce its latest flagship the One M9 in just a couple of weeks. Naturally, it's time to clear out some inventory space to make way for new products, and that means cutting prices. HTC Hot Deals is running a weekend-long sale on the RE Camera, the One M8, and a selection of custom cases.
Bricked your HTC One? Don't fret. HTC has uploaded full 1.4 GB RUUs for both the M7 and M8 developer and unlocked editions. These are for the latest Lollipop versions of Sense 6, though most owners should already have had this update pushed to their phones.
Just as it did for the Sprint M7, HTC has made a full 1.5GB RUU of Android 5.0 available for the T-Mobile One M8. The OTA is still rolling out, but if you just can't be bothered to wait, or there's some problem getting the OTA to appear on your device, this is the answer. It's not without drawbacks, though.
Yesterday we got our hands on a leaked Sprint document suggesting that the HTC One M8 would get its Android 5.0 update on February 13th. Next to it in parenthesis were the words subject to change. As it turns out, sometimes things actually do change. The carrier has posted an HTC One M8 support page that says the over-the-air update is going out today.
Sprint is really getting on the Lollipop train lately with updates for the HTC One M7 and Galaxy S5 already announced. Today, we have a leaked internal Sprint document that claims two other devices are getting Lollipop soon—the HTC One M8 and LG G3.
HTC is still working to get all its recent devices updated to Android 5.0 despite recently admitting it would miss the promised 90 day window. Hey, you can't win 'em all. Next up for HTC is an update to the Sprint One M7, which is supposed to start this Thursday.
HTC promised to get Android 5.0 Lollipop through the approval process and out to the HTC One M7 and M8 in the US no later than 90 days after release. US product manager Mo Versi even officially started the timer when Lollipop was delivered by Google. Now Versi says that won't happen after all.
