A couple of months ago, we told you that the HTC Desire HD and Incredible S would be getting an OTA update to Gingerbread, but we didn't know exactly when this would happen. It looks like the wait is over though, because HTC has started rolling out the official OTA update to European users. Unfortunately, there is no official word when the Desire Z will see an update, but we're still expecting it sometime close to the end of the second quarter. Read More
While the UK has had the Desire HD since early last week, the EVO look-a-like model and its sibling are only starting to trickle into Irish stores. Currently Vodafone appears to be the only carrier offering one of the new Desires, with the Desire HD available on pre-pay for €479 or €229 on an 18 month €35 contract. However, many Irish Android users appear to be holding out for their network of choice, Meteor, to announce the Desire HD and to a lesser extent the Desire Z. Read More
You may envy those who have their hands on a Desire HD already, but early-adoption is rose-like with its obligatory thorns attached. Many owners on XDA-Developers are reporting issues with their phone's screen when making and receiving calls. Outbound calls appear to deactivate the screen permanently and render the phone entirely unresponsive, save for a battery-pull and fresh boot. Receipt of calls conversely keeps the screen on and active, even when pressed against your ear. Read More
One lucky Dutch guy (xda member Clock1932) has swept aside any considerations of failed Google "Type Approval" testing and has gotten his paws on what many are calling "the EVO for Europe." Not so fast: while it may lack a kickstand, a 4G radio, and a front facing camera, its new Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 CPU appears to be quite a step up when it comes to benchmarks. Read More
So I'm not exactly a huge fan of custom UIs, bloatware, and the like, but even I've got to admit that this new version of HTC's Sense UI looks pretty nice.
According to Android Spin, an Android blog which just got done loading the HTC Desire HD ROM (a very similar ROM will also run on the Desire Z) on an HD2, this new ROM will contain several new features such as the previously announced HTCSense.com, much more in-depth customization options, a new HTC Likes app, HTC Hub, and even an eReader app! In case a blurry picture and some unconfirmed specs weren’t enough for you, the Desire HD has already gotten a high quality video leak to call its own, and with it confirmation of all the great specs. While they certainly aren’t anything shocking, it serves to show us that the Desire HD is really pretty much a GSM EVO – but that doesn’t make it less impressive.
- 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
- 4.3” WVGA screen
- 720p recording
- Android 2.2 with Sense
- Front-facing camera
The only notable difference I can see between the EVO and Desire HD (besides the lack of a 4G radio in the latter) is the HD’s brushed aluminum body, which looks much nicer than the EVO, in my opinion. Read More
A blurrycam shot of an unnamed HTC Android device running Android 2.2 (presumably... my Chinese is a little rusty) has been spotted over on the Android Hong-Kong forums (the irony is not lost on me: the picture was taken with an iPhone).
Although the device doesn’t seem to have any physical HTC branding, there is an “HTC Confidential” watermark on the screen of the device, and it’s running an HTC kernel. Read More
