The Honor 7X – arguably the best budget phone in the U.S. right now despite launching with Nougat – is slated to officially get Oreo starting next Monday, April 30. Honor announced this via its USA Twitter page and in a press release. The update not only brings the phone up to Android 8.0, but it adds several new features to the $199 phone.

When it launched, one of the biggest disappointments with the Honor 7X was that it shipped with Nougat out of the box. Not too long ago, however, Honor put out a call for beta testers to get the first glimpse of Oreo and EMUI 8 on the budget device, and now the time has come for that beta to start rolling out.

Huawei's been releasing Oreo betas for several of its phones, but we still haven't heard much about updates for Honor-branded devices. Now Huawei has published a list of all the devices that Oreo is being developed for. Oddly, the Honor 8 is mentioned in spite of a confirmation from Honor India on Twitter that the phone wouldn't be getting Oreo.

The Honor View10 will come to the United States later this year, the company announced at a press conference in Las Vegas at the CES conference tonight. Pricing and an exact release date were not announced, but on the latter, we'd place our bets on sooner rather than later.

Following the release of the Mate 10, Huawei is taking some time to introduce the latest mid-range device from its Honor subbrand, the 7X. Honor puts out some great bang-for-your-buck phones, like the 6X earlier this year, so the 7X is likely to follow a similar path.

Huawei's Honor sub-brand has been a vehicle for several budget smartphones in the last few years, including the Honor 6X from early 2017. Now, the Honor 7X is official, but only for the Chinese market so far. It keeps the dual camera setup from the last Honor, but it has gained a taller 18:9 display and aluminum frame.
