Google celebrates the Fourth of July with an AR fireworks game straight out of 2005
What if you crossed Guitar Hero with patriotic jams?
We here in the United States are sliding into a holiday weekend, with Independence Day falling on Sunday this year. Google has designed a new AR game to celebrate the occasion, combining fireworks, national landmarks, and Guitar Hero into one odd experience.
It seems like we've seen every possible iteration of the Guitar Hero style of musical game. But thanks to the creativity of developers, we're caught off guard on occasion. Case in point: R.G.B. It's a pretty simple rhythm game with only three lanes, making it technically much easier than the games that it imitates. But a deceptively slow pace and an addictive main mechanic mean it's more than the sum of its parts.
I remember when the first Guitar Hero launched for the PS2 in early 2006, it was a ground-breaking concept. Since then, there have been far too many iterations of the game on virtually every device and platform conceivable. And now you can get your own personal copy of the latest Guitar Hero (Warriors of Rock) in the palm of your hand for the low price of $2.99 from the Amazon Appstore. The game costs $7.99 in the Amazon Market.
It's hardly a surprise, but it's welcome news nonetheless: Sony Ericsson just announced the Xperia Play, also known as the PlayStation Phone. We're still waiting for the full specs on this PlayStation certified device, so be sure to check back here soon for all the official details!
