Book with Google Flights through September 2 and get the difference back if ticket prices drop

Google might have shut down its Trips app, but it is far from giving up on acting as your online travel broker. It has just revamped its hotel search process on its new Travel site and is now offering better price-tracking on Google Flights. On top of this, for a very limited time, if the price for your trip drops anytime from when you book to when you take off, the company will refund you the difference.

[Update: Dead, RIP] Google is preparing to shut down the Trips app [APK Teardown]

For travelers that loved the Google Trips app for its travel planning and helpful discovery features, it's probably going to come as disappointing news that the search giant is making preparations to discontinue the app. The latest version update to Trips includes messaging that will inform users that the app is scheduled to be shut down and encourages users to seek out the features in other Google products.

Weekend poll: Do you use the Google Trips app?

Among the more important news of the last week was the reveal that the Google Trips had developed an expiration date, with it set to shuffle off its Android coil this August 5th. If you aren't familiar with Google Trips, the app debuted back in 2016, and it used some of the same data scraping, trip bundling tools shared with the now-defunct Inbox to organize travel details together, conveniently categorizing reservations and itineraries for offline use, all while providing handy activity recommendations to fill your empty vacation schedule. Now that the app is going the way of the dodo, we're curious to know how many of our readers that might affect.

Google Trips finally has a home on the web with all the resources a vacation planner needs

A lot of planning for a trip typically takes place while a person is sat down with a PC — there's room to cross-reference prices, blow up the fine print, and open up a ton of tabs there. But until today, Google didn't really have a convenient hub for all of that information as well as things like weather forecasts and suggested guides on the desktop — sure, Google Trips might be a wonderful app, but it doesn't scratch that itch. Now, we finally have another option: google.com/travel

Little-known travel hack: You're leaving money on the table if you're not using Google Trips' discounts

Google Trips is a great travel planner. Besides automatically importing your flight and hotel bookings, letting you browse and bookmark things to do, and offering practical information about the country/city you're going to, it also has one little-known trick that can save you some dinero while traveling: discounts. When you're already dipping into your piggy jar for a trip, it doesn't hurt to save upward of 20% on travel cards, tickets to places, and experiences, does it?

Google Trips lets you get tickets to many top attractions [APK Download]

Google Trips has quickly become one of my go-to apps for travel planning. I keep it as a one-stop shop for my trip's schedule, reservations, and various places of interest, even if I still use Calendar, Gmail, and Maps independently when I need more control. Plus, it provides some practical advice for every city and sometimes helps me discover new places I might have missed despite my extensive search. Now, Trips is also getting ticket support, so you can quickly book an entry to many top destinations around the world.

Google Trips 1.6 adds videos and blog posts to help you discover your upcoming destinations [APK Download]

Google Trips is one of the hidden gems of Google's arsenal of apps. What started as a small app that manages your flight and hotel reservations is now nearly a full-blown travel planner with essential tips on how to get around and what you need to know about the city/country you're going to, management for many reservation types, saved places that sync with Google Maps, discounts and offers on various activities, and a complete list of places to visit with ratings and reviews from the Maps community.

It's the latter part that's getting updated now with one small, but handy, addition.

Google Trips consolidates your bookmarked places with Maps and Search, lets you merge trips and edit reservations

Google Trips has improved a lot since the barebones utility that it was on its first release. Now it not only manages your flights and hotels, but also trains, buses, car rentals, restaurant reservations, and more. However, I have recently stopped using it because of one major miss: it didn't integrate with the custom lists I created in Maps and Search. Until now, Trips only showed your starred Google Maps places under the "Saved Places" card of each destination, but nothing more. If you had created a custom list on Maps/Search for that destination, like I do, none of it showed up.

Google Trips soon to include itinerary sharing and expanded reservation support

Google has just pushed out a blog post that indirectly outlines a few changes to Google Trips. We reported last month that manually adding reservations and support for bus and train tickets had been implemented in the app. This latest post by Google shows off some additional features, like easy itinerary sharing and new reservation types like restaurants and car rentals.
