Google app tests Lens shortcut directly in the search bar

Google introduced Lens back in 2017 as a new way to provide contextual info on things you see. Since then, it's continued to evolve and add new features. There are a number of places to find Lens, including in Google Photos and the Google Camera app. Now Google seems to be testing placing a Lens icon directly in the search bar of the Google app.

Android TV might soon support multi-user Voice Match for Google Assistant

Most, if not all, Android TV remotes come with a dedicated Google Assistant button. It allows you to speed up a ton of interactions and makes accessing shows and apps not instantly accessible on the homescreen easier. However, most TVs are shared between multiple family members, so it's a bummer that Assistant can't tell who's talking to it, especially since Google's smart speakers and displays are capable of customizing results via Voice Match. That feature might soon make the jump to Google's TV platform.

The Google app's dark theme is officially rolling out in stable this week, but only on Android 10

The Google app's dark mode should now be available to all beta users

The dark mode rollout was a pretty smooth experience for some of Google's apps, which received a single update with a new toggle for dark/light/automatic theme and that was the end of it. For other apps, it's been a rollercoaster of updates, rollbacks, server-side switches, and inconsistent experiences across Android versions and phone brands. Google's search app is one of the latter, but the company now claims dark theme is available to everyone on the app's beta channel.

The Google app's built-in screenshot editing feature just received an upgraded UI

All screenshots aren't created equal, specifically if you snap images directly within the Google application. In February 2018, we discovered that an in-app photo editor had been included in a beta build of the Google search app. After a year and a half of silence regarding its development, this built-in editing feature is showing new signs of life with a revamped UI, rolling out now to the stable version of the Google app.

Google Search app experiments with Dark Theme [APK Download]

Last week during its annual developer conference, Google announced that it would introduce a dark mode with Android 10 Q. The signs have been pointing towards that ever since the beta started, but now the company is putting more steam behind the new theme. Over the weekend, we've received tips that the Google app has a dark color scheme in the works, although it's still looking rather wonky, unfinished, and inconsistent across users.

Google is testing a new interface for the Google Search app

Between the search bar on the Google Now Launcher/Pixel Launcher and Google Assistant, I rarely find myself opening the standalone Google search app on my phone. But now Google is testing a new interface for the application, and it looks quite a bit cleaner.
