Outside of Samsung's yearly announcement of a new Galaxy Note, it's rare to see anything interesting happening with a stylus. However, the latest update to Google Play Books comes with some new behavior that makes a stylus much more useful with things like college textbooks and other reference material. Now when you drag a stylus over some text, it instantly switches into selection mode and pops up the action menu as soon as the selection is done.

A new version of Google Play Books is rolling out today and it brings some good changes to both the app and its notifications. The big change in this release is an overhaul of the Library page, where several tabs have been removed and a new "Shelves" tab has been added. Users experimenting with Android O can also take advantage of some newly added notification channels. As the holidays close in (at least for many readers), Google is rolling out a stream of updates to various apps. In addition to the major Keyboard update earlier today, Play Books is making some changes, as well. The big change on this release is the adoption of the bottom navigation bar. It's called Bubble Zoom and it quite literally makes speech bubbles leap off the page. Now that app updates are back to business as usual (more or less), Play Books is showing some activity again with a couple of small-ish changes that add a bit of polish.
