Google Lens was one of the hot topics out of Google I/O, this year. Google Lens' availability has been expanding ever since its first announcement. Although it started as an exclusive for Pixel owners in Google Photos, it quickly showed up in Assistant too, then rolled to non-Pixel devices in Photos, and eventually made it to those devices in Assistant too. However, through it all, Lens in Assistant and Photos has been limited to one language: English. Google Lens can recognize receipts and organize them for you in Assistant

After seeing Assistant make a phone call and fake-talk like a human at I/O a few days ago, nothing surprises me anymore. But I'm not going to deny having a little smile on my face when I saw that Google Lens was capable of recognizing receipts and bringing them back up later when you ask it to show your receipts. We just discovered this feature thanks to our tipster, but Google being Google, it's likely this has been live for a while and we didn't run into a situation that triggered it or it's been rolling out slowly to people.

Lens was announced at Google I/O 2017, and began rolling out to Photos a few weeks ago. If you're not aware, Lens is a machine-learning powered spiritual successor to Google Goggles, as it can identify objects and landmarks in photos. Google said it would eventually arrive in Assistant, and now it looks like the time has come.

Google is going big on machine learning at this year's I/O—much of the keynote was about Assistant and Lens, both of which leverage neural networks to make magic happen on your phone. Now, Lens will be faster to use because it'll be right there in your camera app. This is coming to Google's phones, of course, but that's not all. Devices from Sony, Motorola, and others will also have Lens in the camera.
