While it may not be the biggest announcement at Google I/O, the news that you'll soon be able to cast your phone directly to your car and Chromebook is still exciting. The ability to stream apps to your laptop was spotted in the Android 13 beta, but this looks like a smoother experience for casting video.

Google's I/O developer conference kicked off today, and among all the exciting announcements about fixing Wear OS and UI tweaks, the search giant unveiled a wild new video chat project it's working on. Called Starline, it uses machine learning and special displays to render video calls in convincing 3D. The result looks like something straight out of science fiction.

Google Maps Live View is getting a lot easier to use

In 2019 Google added Live View to Maps, a feature that uses AR to overlay directions onto the real world. Since then, Google has slowly improved it, and that continues today at I/O 2021, now allowing us to use it from the map itself.
