Google I/O is a busy time—announcements flying left and right, blog posts going up, and more Google talking heads than you can shake a stick at. It can be hard to keep up when you've got your own life to live, so Google was good enough to distill all the important day one announcements into a single 9-minute video.

Google is trying to take over in-car software with initiatives like Android Auto and Android Automotive OS, and that effort seems to be well received among customers and car manufacturers. The company today announced that there are now over 100 million cars compatible with Android Auto on the road. And Android Automotive, Google's dedicated software kit for in-car infotainment, is also coming to ten more vehicles launching this year.
Android 12's radical new design, Wear OS brought back from the dead, and more: Every big Google I/O announcement
Here's all the important stuff, and there's A LOT this year
Google I/O day one is just about a wrap, and with it came an absolute tsunami of news. Android is getting its biggest design overhaul in half a decade. Wear OS is being completely pivoted — and merging with Samsung Tizen?! Android Automotive is headed to more cars, and as usual, Google announced a smorgasbord of app updates and changes to apps you use every day. We've got all the big news here, and there's a lot of it, so let's buckle down and get through this stuff!
Google is making a change to Android Auto apps that should have been there in the first place
Google is unifying Auto and Automotive app development
Google is moving to unify app development for Android Auto and Android Automotive. It feels long overdue, as there's no good reason to have two different routes for creating apps for what is essentially the same form factor.
Ever accidentally Google something sensitive — let's say a birthday gift — only to realize you didn't do it in an Incognito tab? Google's making that easier to fix. Today at I/O, Google announced a new feature that'll let you more easily trash your last 15 minutes of search history with limited fiddling in your device's settings.
Google pushed live its schedule for Google I/O just yesterday. Of course, we may see the events listed change over time — Google does like to keep a handful of subjects secret until they're announced — but there are already a few must-watch events. I've taken a look at the full list, and while you should keep that schedule open for additions, here are my recommendations.
Google has just pushed live its I/O 2021 schedule. Outside the usual expected talks like the I/O and developer keynotes, "What's new in Android?," and the (always great) fireside chats, there are a few new interesting-sounding topics, like "anomaly detection with TensorFlow" and "serverless demo derby." And, nestled among the three days of events, there's even a talk from Android Police alumnus Liam Spradlin.
Google loves Easter eggs more than any other company I can think of, and it especially enjoys hiding games inside its various products. The most famous example of this would be the dino game in Chrome, but there are plenty of others to find. Google I/O is a little more than a month away, and it seems Google has taken the opportunity to hide a fun game of Breakout in the countdown page.
