Update Notes for YouTube Music, Google Fit, Gboard, Keep, Calendar, and many more (Feb 4, 2018)

Every week, I examine somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred app updates while looking for changes. The most interesting things turn into APK Teardowns or Download posts. Many of the remaining updates are unremarkable, amounting to a few bug fixes, routine updates to libraries, or even just pixel-level adjustments to layouts and images. However, there are usually a few updates that land somewhere in between. I don't want to spam readers with dozens of short posts, but I hate to ignore things that people might want to know about, so I'm going to wrap up the leftovers for a little weekend reading and call it Update Notes.

OCD Sufferers, Rejoice: Google Calendar For Android App Now Syncs Notification Dismissals Across Devices

A small but very much helpful update was announced for the Google Calendar app today: sync of notification dismissals across multiple devices. And yes, this is a staged rollout, so you will have to wait patiently for the updated app to actually become available. Hopefully it won't take long.

That's really the only change, aside from the standard bug fixes. Google Calendar App Update Brings Color Customization Options, New Event Creation UI

The Google Calendar Android app received an update this afternoon, introducing a brand-new interface for certain steps during event creation, as well as the option to custom color-code days / your entire calendar. The new interfaces for these features are actually quite pretty, focusing on a circle-based design aesthetic that is more reminiscent of the Android 4.2 clock app in some ways.

These aren't actually huge features in terms of functionality, but they should definitely give you an idea where the Calendar app is headed in future iterations. Time zones have been simplified to be easier to determine, and you also now have more powerful options for scheduling recurring events.

Google Releases Official Google Calendar App On The Play Store (For 4.0.3+ Devices)

Google has just released the official Google Calendar app on the Play Store, to the joy of, well, probably everyone who isn't using a Nexus phone or a custom ROM. This is the same app you'll find in stock Android, packaged up and ready for individual consumption. This also means Google will be able to update the Calendar app directly from the Play Store, instead of in Android releases as part of the Google Apps package.

This includes all the features you'd expect, allowing you to set which calendars you want to view, create events, hide declined events, show the week number, decide the week start date, and more.
