Google's image processing algorithms have been lauded far and wide, and they're the reason modded Google Camera apps are so sought-after by smartphone camera enthusiasts. Google Camera version 8.0 introduced with the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G added a bunch of useful features — such as Storage Saver mode — which were eventually rolled out to older Pixels with v8.1. Now, developers have released a modded version of Google Camera 8.1 that also works on non-Pixel devices.
The features that owners of older-gen Pixels miss out on the most are those related to photography. Many Google Camera mods help alleviate that new-Pixel envy by bringing some exclusive options to previous-gen Pixels. We've already covered cstark27's mod, which was based on Camera 7.2.010, but now the dev is back with another team and a more recent version based on Camera 7.2.014. Don't let the minor number change fool you, though, this is a pretty major revamp with lots of goodies in tow.
The new Pixel 4 has launched with some awesome photography chops that make owners of previous generations of the device jealous. While Google will eventually bring a few of these to its older phones, that's not the case for all and the Android community has already stepped up to fill the void. The mostprominent Google Camera mod, Camera PX (aka GCam) by cstark27, has been updated to bring several Pixel 4-exclusive features to older Pixels.
If you happened to be one of the less than 13 people who shelled out $550 to get Verizon's variant of the Galaxy Camera, then a nice update is heading your way. It appears to bring some pretty useful new features, like S Memo, a new Help App, four new Smart Modes, and a nifty remote view finder.
So far as the new Smart Modes are concerned, the update brings scenes for dawn, indoor parties, snow, and food to the device, for a total of 19. In addition to those, you can now access the GCam's view finder via your Galaxy S Series, Tab Series, or iPhone with the companion app, which is pretty rad.
