Gboard adds support for a couple of new languages every few months or so, but with around 7,000 languages globally, it's going to take some time for the trend to end. Google has just added 16 more languages to Gboard, as well as four others for Google Handwriting Input.

Gboard's spell check is now working for some users on v7.4.18 (beta) [APK Download]

Gboard's history with spell check isn't a good one. For months and months, users complained that spell check wasn't working, then version 7.4 of Gboard gave us false hope that it was fixed by surfacing a new banner for the spell checker. Unfortunately, it still wasn't functional and was nowhere to be seen in the settings. Now, however, after the recent update to v7.4.18 (beta), spell check seems to be properly doing its job for some users.

Google promises to stop suggesting 'my face' when you type 'sit on' in Gboard

Applying machine learning to everything under the sun can be tricky. Case in point: Gboard's text prediction has been suggesting people type "my face and" after the words "sit on," resulting in a reference to a sexual act. Google says it's an accident, though, and it's working on a fix for the errant suggestion.

Gboard v7.4 prepares floating keyboard, selfie stickers called Minis, spell check, and much more [APK Teardown]

The Gboard team is hard at work building new features into its app, and the latest update demonstrates just how much effort has gone into it. A few additions are already visible, including spell check, a mini mode for the morse code keyboard, and an adaptive icon. Although, the spell check feature still seems to be disabled. Turning to a teardown, we can see development on Minis, which are basically a variant on Allo's Selfie Stickers. Gboard Smart Replies being tested for other apps including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Android Messages

Google's been throwing its Smart Replies at pretty much every app or venue capable of accepting them, from Android Messages to Gmail. It even has a standalone app that introduces the shortcuts—and their occasionally borderline-offensive responses—to third-party app notifications. Now Gboard is testing out adding the same feature to other applications like Facebook and WhatsApp.

Gboard v7.31 adds annotation and more effects for GIFs, new language support [APK Download]

Gboard added the option to use your phone's camera to create custom GIFs in May. The tool came with a few fun effects to apply over the clips, too, like question marks to express confusion and mock "breaking news" chyrons. In adishion to offring automtic txt corection, Adnroid is suposed to underline mispelled wordz in red.

The feature is labeled "spell checker" in the system settings, and it's been out of commission for a while now. Comments on a Google Issue Tracker post about the general low quality of Gboard's text correction from April mention the problem, and a recent Reddit thread says the issue has persisted since November of last year.

Morse code input coming to Gboard beta later today

One of the first announcements to come out of Google I/O today is an accessibility feature for Gboard. During the keynote, a woman named Tania explained how she built a device (with her husband's help) to translate blinks in morse code into text on a phone/computer.
