12 popular stock trading apps for Android, to get you ready for the next wave of speculative madness

12 popular stock trading apps for Android, to get you ready for the next wave of speculative madness

Trading stocks is currently a hot topic, all thanks to a recent event where redditors figured out how to stick it to a hedge fund that was trying to short GameStop. On top of this, stocks, in general, have been blowing up during Covid, which is also driving the current interest in trading. This is why I've decided to compile a list of the more notable trading apps currently available on the Play Store. Now, I don't fancy myself a day trader, so I'm not here to review these apps. This is simply a list for our readers to pore over as they consider the available options on Android.

Robinhood's Play Store reviews are back down to 1.1 stars

Robinhood's Play Store reviews are back down to 1.1 stars

Over the last few weeks, GameStop stock (GME) has seen its price spike tremendously due to meme-driven retail trading from venues like the subreddit /r/WallStreetBets, prompting some services like Robinhood to halt trading for it and other Reddit-promoted stocks. This heavy-handed action by the company has resulted in a clear reaction from users, with the Robinhood app's rating at the Play Store tanking to 1.0 stars, the lowest possible score, and prompting a class action suit.

[Deal Alert] White 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 Marked Down To $249 At GameStop Online Store

[Deal Alert] White 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 Marked Down To $249 At GameStop Online Store

Even though it is over a year old, the 10.1 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro is still an impressive tablet. Its hi-res 2560x1600 display paired with a 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor gives this device more pixels and power than almost any other Android tablet on the market – even those that are much newer.

At launch, the asking price for the device was a cool $500. If you were tempted to buy one then, but decided to hold off then congratulations, your patience has been rewarded. GameStop has the white 16GB model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 marked down to just $249, a full 50 percent off retail and $90 less than what it's listed for on Amazon.

GameStop's Android App Has Been Updated With An Interface That's Much Less Awful

GameStop's Android App Has Been Updated With An Interface That's Much Less Awful

As a dedicated gamer and a former cash-starved teenager, please listen to me: don't shop at GameStop. The ubiquitous American video game retailer is almost certain to overcharge for software and hardware, underpay you for trade-ins, and try to squeeze three preorders and a Game Informer subscription out of you before you leave. But for those misguided souls who insist on giving them custom (or who live in a city with no retail alternatives), the official GameStop app has been notably updated today.

Updated app above, old one below.

The update text on the Play Store simply says "everything," and based on cached images of the previous version, that's not an understatement.

[Deal Alert] Grab A 32GB 2012 Nexus 7 For $99 From GameStop Or Staples Till Stock Is Gone

[Deal Alert] Grab A 32GB 2012 Nexus 7 For $99 From GameStop Or Staples Till Stock Is Gone

Guys, this is pretty nuts. GameStop is apparently trying to get rid of its remaining 2012 Nexus 7 stock, so it's slashing the price down to a Benjamin till they're all gone. That's a hell of a deal, especially considering KitKat is just around the corner for this device. And it'll probably run better than ever on KK thanks to Project Svelte.

If your local GameStop is already out of stock (they're all running low apparently), we're hearing that Staples will price match, so you should be able to grab it for a hundred spot at either place. That's just a killer deal, no question about it.

ASUS Memo Pad HD7 Up For Pre-Order At Amazon, Gamestop, Newegg, And TigerDirect For $150

The new Nexus 7 is pretty awesome in all respects, and it should be right at the top of your list if you're looking for a 7-inch tablet. But if your budget won't stretch up to $230, ASUS has a more low-end model that's perfectly respectable. The Memo Pad HD7 (ME173X) is an upgrade to last year's budget tablet, and it's up for pre-order at no less than four, count 'em, four US online stores. The retail price is $149.99.

The HD7 features a 1.2Ghz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage plus a MicroSD card reader, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front-facing cam, and the standard 1280x800 resolution.

OUYA Android Console Officially On Sale Today For $100 - Best Buy, Target, And OUYA Store Now Shipping [Update]

The day has finally come, true believers. The OUYA console is real, it's on sale, and you can have one of three online retailers send one to your doorstep. The $100 gaming SoC-in-a-box got its celebrated start on Kickstarter, but as of today you don't need to be among its backers to buy one. The OUYA storefront, Best Buy, and Target are all allowing orders to go through at the moment - Gamestop and Amazon are also retail partners, but the former isn't allowing you to add the item to your cart, while the latter is showing "out of stock."

Ouya Will Be Sold At GameStop, Best Buy, Target, And Amazon, Controllers Will Cost $50

Ouya Will Be Sold At GameStop, Best Buy, Target, And Amazon, Controllers Will Cost $50

We've only got about a month left before Ouya units start landing in the hands of backers and a few months before the full-blown retail launch. A  retail launch that we now learn will include GameStop, Best Buy, Target, Amazon, and an undisclosed number of other sellers. Yes, including brick-and-mortar stores. Things are starting to look pretty good for the little console that could.

Speaking in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ouya's CEO released a few extra details, including the price: $100 for the console, which we knew. However, controllers will also be available for $50. Note the distinct lack of the word "extra" before "controllers."

[Deal Alert] Refurbished Nexus 7 32GB Is Just $179.99 From Gamestop

[Deal Alert] Refurbished Nexus 7 32GB Is Just $179.99 From Gamestop

You! Yes, you, with the Galaxy Tab running Gingerbread! You are officially out of excuses for not having a Nexus 7. (Unless your excuse is that you don't have a hundred and eighty bucks.) Google and Asus' seven-inch love child is just $179.99 for the 32GB version - a savings of a whopping $70 - at Gamestop's online store. The only catch is that it's "Gamestop Premium Refurbished".

gamestop nexus 7

Gamestop Premium Refurbished means that it was traded in to Gamestop as a used item, and the company's service department has done some kind of work on it. Now, that could be anything from a sticky power button to a cracked screen, but the unit they send you is functional and complete, including data cable and power brick (but usually not a box or manual).
