Electronic Arts is working on a Lord of the Rings game and it sounds awful

You guessed correctly, it's free to play, and you'll collect LoTR characters

There's a new Lord of the Rings game coming to Android, this time from Electronic Arts. It's called The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth, and it will be set in Tolkien's literature world (not to be confused with the Warner Brothers movie world), as EA has partnered with Middle-earth Enterprises and not Warner Bros. (like NetEase did with The Lord of the Rings: War). The game will offer collectible characters and is set to enter regional beta this summer, currently being worked on by Capital Games, the same developer behind the pay-to-win cash-grab Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes.

Atari was once a well-known name in gaming, but at this point, the company is coasting on name recognition alone, floating ideas like hotels and cryptocurrency as new money-making schemes for the brand. Still, games are what people expect from Atari, and it would appear a new title is in the works, co-developer by Atari, and it actually looks pretty good. The game is called Kombinera, and it's a puzzle platformer with simple graphics that indeed looks like a proper Atari game.

The official Tomb Raider account on Twitter has just tweeted that there's a new Tomb Raider game coming to mobile, and it's called Tomb Raider Reloaded. It's currently in development under Emerald City Games in cooperation with the Square Enix London mobile team, and it's slated to arrive sometime in 2021.

Just what everyone wanted, yet another money-grubbing match-3 game

Zynga has officially announced that it's working on a Harry Potter match-3 game for mobile. This game is called Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, and of course, Zynga has yet to share a single screenshot or video of the title. Paradoxically Zynga has noted that the game is already available as a soft-launch release in the Philippines, which means the studio is already publicly testing the title, which begs the question as to why there are zero screenshots or videos shared with today's announcement. Could it be that Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells is such a shallow cash grab that it's in the developer's best interest to hide what the game looks like before an official worldwide release?

Kingdom Hearts Dark Road is finally available on Android as an update to Union χ

If you're not sick of card-based RPGs yet, here's another one

Square Enix has revealed a new Kingdom Hearts game for mobile, and it's tentatively titled Project Xehanort. The reason for this placeholder name is so Square Enix can drum up press by asking everyone to join a Twitter campaign to guess the game's name.

Bethesda’s E3 2019 show has revealed the first look at the return of Commander Keen, a platforming series that started its life as a DOS game back in 1990. It was one of id Software’s earliest titles, and its corpse has been resurrected by ZeniMax Online Studios (a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda's parent company) as a free-to-play reinterpretation of the series for mobile. As you can imagine, fans aren't very pleased.

Levels is a new video series from Red Bull that dives into the world of indie gaming. The latest episode reveals that ustwo, the creators of Monument Valley, is currently working on two new games for mobile. Both titles are described as departures from the Monument Valley franchise.

The Gears of War franchise is coming to Android, but it's not going to offer what you would expect from the series. Over the weekend at E3 Microsoft announced Gears Pop!, and the game will combine Funko's cutesy Pop! vinyl figures with the Gears of War franchise in order to create something new and exciting for mobile. Sadly we'll have to wait until next year to play it, so make sure you don't get too excited just yet.

Nintendo hasn't released a new game on Android since Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp landed in November 2017. Well, I'm excited to report that I finally have some news on this front. Nintendo and Cygames have announced a new mobile RPG for Android. It's called Dragalia Lost Read. The initial release will take place in Asia this summer, and there should be a worldwide launch sometime after that.
