Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ vs. Tab S7 FE: Which offers the best value for your money?

While both tablets offer a big screen and a fair price, there's only one top contender

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ and the Galaxy Tab S7 FE were each made with you in mind. It’s true. Samsung said so. That FE acronym stands for “Fan Edition.” According to Samsung, the FE series reviews its customers' critical feedback and then makes updates on everything from hardware to the general design, all at an approachable price. Now, isn’t that thoughtful?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE vs. Galaxy Tab S7 FE: Bigger or better?

The Tab S9 FE isn't as large as the S7 FE, but it's got a lot going for it otherwise

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE wasn't a bad tablet, but in our review, we found its unfortunately high list price wasn't quite backed up by performance and display quality. Granted, Samsung's S-series tablets aren't known for their low cost, but the Fan Edition versions should, in theory, deliver an almost-high-end Android tablet experience. Two years after the S7 FE's lackluster release, Samsung's back at it with the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, and this time with enough premium hardware to justify its nearly identical launch price.

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE — the 'FE' stands for "Fan Edition," in case you're unaware — has been out in the U.S. for a couple of months as a "premium-B" tier sidekick to the bolder Tab S7+ from earlier this year. With each product's price structure stuck close together, Samsung is making an effort to double down on sales.

As the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE nears, so do the leaks surrounding it. Google has now further hinted at the impending release of the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition by adding it to the list of devices that support Play Services for AR.

Samsung's Tab S7 FE is coming to the US in two models, and the 'worse' version is also kind of better

One has a newer Snapdragon 778G, the other has a Snapdragon 750G

After a "worldwide" launch that expanded to India a few months ago, Samsung's Galaxy Tab S7 FE is coming to the US in both cellular-connected 5G and Wi-Fi models. Specs for the two 12.4" tablets differ beyond just connectivity, and what you're getting is definitely cut down compared to the Tab S7+, but that comes with a benefit: Prices for the new tablets start at just $530 for the Wi-Fi version, and $670 for the 5G model, with availability set for tomorrow, August 5th.

Samsung seems to be the only Android manufacturer interested in premium tablets. Incidentally, it also had a major hit with last year's Galaxy S20 FE, offering flagship specs with cheaper materials and a few cut corners. So now, after a whole lot of leaks, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE is official. Samsung also announced the Tab A7 Lite, for the less lucrative but far wider market of budget tablets.

The brand-new Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE will unsurprisingly only get quarterly security updates

Several older devices are also getting less regular updates

Samsung has continued to impress with its regular security updates lately, but while flagships and new phones tend to get monthly patches, many cheaper or older devices get them less often. Samsung updated its security schedule this week, relegating some phones and tablets to less frequent support.
