Can you hear that? It's the screaming of the phones as JerryRigEverything posts yet another video of smartphone torment. This time it's the Galaxy S8 on his desk getting scratched, burned, and bent. Samsung's latest flagship comes through it quite well, though. Read More
If you are interested in the tech behind the Galaxy S8 and S8+ (and have already read our own delightful opinions), then odds are you're excited to see what the device looks like on the inside. Thankfully for all of us iFixit has already ripped both their GS8 and GS8+ to pieces, so now you don't have to (unless you really wanna). Read More
You may have heard about Bixby, Samsung's new device assistant feature that won't even have voice commands in the US at launch. Well, if you were planning to remap the Bixby button to something more... useful, prepare for disappointment. Samsung has reportedly blocked that modification in an OTA update. Read More
Well, the Galaxy S8 isn’t even out yet and already the first few software modifications for the device have started dribbling in. It seems that enterprising redditors have found a way to bring the Bixby button new functionality using the All in one Gestures app, allowing users to remap the key to other applications or inputs, such as Google Now. Samsung is really, really, really proud of the Galaxy S8 and S8+'s design. Not only did it spend a lot of time talking it up during the device's official announcement, it is also touting it left and right at every opportunity... and for good reason. The S8 and S8+ take every compliment that was said about the S7 and S7 Edge and push it further. The curves, lines, design, material, finishes, everything just comes together to create a gorgeous smartphone that can disappear to let the display shine or pop up when you choose to focus on it.
Samsung will be exhibiting the S8 at Milan Design Week (think Mobile World Congress but for design). Read More
Google initially spearheaded virtual reality on Android with Google Cardboard, which evolved into the more complete Daydream VR platform. The Galaxy S8 and S8 plus were launched in NYC just a few hours ago, but since it's now March 30th at 12am ET, pre-orders at the big four US carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon), Best Buy, and Samsung.com are now live. The time has come for Samsung to do everything in its power to rack up big pre-order numbers for the Galaxy S8. The best way to do that, of course, is to give things away. Samsung will throw a free Gear VR at anyone who pre-orders the phone. If that's not enough, you can also get a deal on some AKG headphones and a big microSD card. Read More
Several smartphone companies have tried making phones that can 'dock' to become desktop PCs. Microsoft has developed Continuum for Windows 10 Mobile, Ubuntu Linux has Convergence, and Motorola tried the Atrix 4G Lapdock. Now Samsung is giving it a shot, with the S8's 'DeX' desktop environment.
DeX works like other solutions - just plug the S8 into the DeX dock, and connect a keyboard, mouse, and HDMI display. The phone then becomes a desktop computer, running Android apps in separate resizable windows. Any app compatible with either Android Nougat's multiwindow API or Samsung's old multiwindow solution should work.
Samsung is hoping businesses will adopt DeX, with the company working with Microsoft and Adobe to make their apps fully compatible. Read More
