Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are the first devices compatible with T-Mobile's new 4x4 MIMO and 256QAM technologies for faster data speeds

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are the first devices compatible with T-Mobile's new 4x4 MIMO and 256QAM technologies for faster data speeds

Back in September, T-Mobile announced several improvements to its network's infrastructure that would help speed up data transfers significantly. There were two folds to the strategy, 4x4 MIMO and DL-256QAM/UL-64QAM, as well as two devices promised to be compatible with these options first: the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

First, 4x4 MIMO is already available in 319 cities and has the potential to double the data paths between the cell network and phones for better speeds in congested areas. It turns out that 4x4 MIMO was already enabled in the update that rolled out to the T-Mobile Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge back in September, but it wasn't mentioned in the official changelog.

Samsung publishes [non-functional] Nougat beta enrollment app in Galaxy Apps store

Samsung publishes [non-functional] Nougat beta enrollment app in Galaxy Apps store

It was not too long ago that Samsung gave U.K. owners of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge the ability to enroll their devices in the Marshmallow beta program. This marked a step outside of Samsung's norm, which was internal testing of major software updates. So here we are in the latter part of 2016 and Samsung seems to be following its new methodology... At least, it looked that way briefly.

Blue Coral Galaxy S7 Edge is coming to US carriers later this year

Blue Coral Galaxy S7 Edge is coming to US carriers later this year

When the Galaxy Note7 was discontinued, Samsung lost a big chunk of change and consumers lost the opportunity to buy that really lovely Blue Coral version of the phone. Blue Coral isn't dead, though. After announcing a Blue Coral version of the Galaxy S7 Edge in Asia, Samsung now confirms it's coming to the US too.

Coral Blue Galaxy S7 Edge coming to Taiwan and Singapore in November

Coral Blue Galaxy S7 Edge coming to Taiwan and Singapore in November

It's rare for our David Ruddock to call anything "absolutely stunning," let alone a blue and slightly orange phone of all things, but Samsung managed to extract that statement out of him when he had some hands-on with the Galaxy Note 7 (RIP). And David wasn't the only one to think that. So what's Samsung to do with this splendidly concocted color now that it can't market and sell it on the Note 7? Well, it's releasing it for its other flagship device, the Galaxy S7 Edge.

And it is a beaut. Behold.

Samsung India is offering Galaxy Note7 pre-orderers some nice freebies with S7 and S7 edge purchases

Samsung India is offering Galaxy Note7 pre-orderers some nice freebies with S7 and S7 edge purchases

While carriers in the United States and other countries have been dealing with returns and refunds of the now-discontinued Galaxy Note7, customers in India haven't had much to deal with, largely because their Note7 pre-orders hadn't even shipped. Now, to thank those who waited all this time for their pre-ordered Note7s, Samsung India has churned up a pretty sweet offer to customers who choose to grab a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge instead.

Originally, Samsung intended for the Note7 to go on sale on September 2nd in India, but supply shortages caused that date to be moved back significantly - so significantly, in fact, that those who waited for the Note7 still didn't have their phones before the phone's complete cancellation.

T-Mobile is rolling out updates to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with security patches, Samsung Cloud, and more

North Korea refuses to allow its athletes to accept complimentary Olympic Edition Galaxy S7 Edges

North Korea refuses to allow its athletes to accept complimentary Olympic Edition Galaxy S7 Edges

Last month, Samsung announced a limited edition of the Galaxy S7 Edge to celebrate the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. This version of the S7 Edge is certainly unique, with the body in black and the buttons and trims in the colors of the Olympic rings. Samsung also announced that it would give 12,500 of the limited edition phones to the athletes of the Rio Olympics.

Not to take charity from its southern neighbor, Radio Free Asia reported that North Korea refused the gift and prevented its athletes from claiming the complimentary devices. According to both Samsung and the Rio Olympics Committee, one of the top managers for the North Korean team took the 31 smartphones, and then failed to deliver them to his athletes.

Samsung posts big profit for Q2 2016, largest in over two years

Samsung posts big profit for Q2 2016, largest in over two years

Bolstered by surging sales of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Samsung has announced its second quarter earnings for 2016, showing that profits, 8.14 trillion won ($45.2 billion), are up almost 18%, with revenue, 50.94 trillion won ($7.22 billion), also up by 5%.

These are big, big increases for Samsung - the biggest profit the South Korean company has made in over two years. This is no doubt thanks to, at least in part, a hugely profitable IT & Mobile Communications division, which has the smartphone department as part of that. Profit for the IM division was 4.32 trillion won ($3.83 billion).
