Samsung is staying true to tradition this week as it releases the September 2021 security patch before any other company, in some cases before August had even finished. This update includes a new version of One UI for the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Flip 5G, bringing features from the new Z Flip3 to the older devices internationally.

You don't have to break an arm and a leg to get a great phone these days, and Samsung's Galaxy A-series is evidence of that. With some incredible devices at affordable price points, getting some of the best features from the Galaxy S21 for a fraction of the cost is easy. In June, Samsung's Galaxy A52 dropped to just $400, an absolute steal for its 120Hz display. If you missed out, you've got another chance — it's back down to that all-time low price yet again. The A-series is chock full of phones, so if you've forgotten what makes this device so special, let's catch you up to speed. The A52 is no slouch, with a Snapdragon 750G, 6GB of RAM, and a massive 4,500mAh battery, but what makes it unique — especially at this price — is its 6.5" 120Hz OLED display. While it's capped at 1080p, it's tough to find phones with a high refresh rate without breaking the bank. Hell, Apple just released its first 120Hz-capable smartphones, and you could buy two of these for less than a single iPhone 13 Pro.

Every month Samsung continues to impress with its commitment to timely security updates. Right now, the August 2021 security patch is rolling out to a number of high-profile Galaxy phones in the US, less than a week behind international models. So far the update is available for the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra on all three major carriers, as well as the unlocked S20 and Note20 series and several A-series phones. It contains the usual bug fixes and security improvements. We'll keep this post updated as other phones receive the August patch.

We recently took a second look at the Samsung Galaxy A52, and although we absolutely liked the phone, it didn't quite wow us. If you were on the fence about picking one up, partly because it lacked power, Samsung is working on something a little new that might just interest you (like these fresh Samsung bois).

Flagships are more expensive than ever these days, but you don't need to break the bank to get a great daily driver. Mid-range devices offer decent performance for the price point, and though they may not compete with gaming phones and foldables, they're more than enough for sending messages and watching a few YouTube videos. Samsung's Galaxy A52 5G is one of the best mid-rangers you can buy right now, and with today's deal, it's an even better value.

Samsung already announced its international lineup of 2021 A-series devices — some last year, some last month. They look promising, with sleek designs, capable specs, and some serious improvements over last year's selection. But it turns out the US selection will look a bit different at launch. For one, no fun colors: the whole series will initially only be available in monochrome colorways stateside. There are also currently no plans to launch the A72 in the US. Still, there's plenty for American customers to be excited about — and soon.

Samsung is working hard on letting users know that it's serious about providing software updates. Last year, the South Korean smartphone giant promised three major Android OS updates for its flagships, and it recently beat Google at its own game by guaranteeing four years of security updates for a bunch of its recent smartphones. Making it easier for consumers to know what to expect, Samsung just added a few devices to its security update schedule, some that haven't even been launched.

U.S. carriers have often carried and highlighted Galaxy A-series devices as budget options for their postpaid customers, so if you have vested an interest in this niche selection, you might want to pay attention to some progressive developments about the Galaxy A52 and the A72.

Samsung's Galaxy S, Note, and Z Fold ranges may be those that grab the headlines, but in reality it's the Galaxy A family that sells the best. Samsung moves more of these handsets than anything else, and the company has certainly been focusing on them a lot recently. We received some news regarding the A72 back in September, and now it's time to talk about the A52, with the release of some CAD-based renders.
