Samsung stops security updates for 2016 models of Galaxy A3, J1, and J3; many new devices only get quarterly updates

Samsung has just made a couple of changes to its Android security updates page, and they're not too pretty. Three devices --- the 2016 versions of the Galaxy A3, J1, and J3 --- have been dropped from security updates altogether, and out of the four new additions, three have been filed under the list for quarterly security updates.

Samsung Announces The Galaxy A5 And A3, Its Slimmest Smartphones Yet With Full Metal Unibody Designs

Smartphone manufacturers have been striving to make their phones thinner for years, and despite how slim phones have become, they're still pushing forward full steam ahead. Today Samsung announced its two thinnest phones yet, the Galaxy A5 and A3. To set these phones apart even further, both handsets have full metal unibody designs.

The larger A5 is just 6.7mm thick. The A3 is only slightly thicker at 6.9mm. For comparison, the Galaxy S5 is 8.1mm thick, and the Note 4 comes in at 8.5mm. The current iPhones sit at 6.9 and 7.1mm.

As thin as Samsung's new phones are, they don't manage to surpass the upcoming Oppo R5.
