[Deal Alert] The International LG G5 (With Band 12 Support) Dips Below $500 On eBay

Good things come to those who wait. Nowhere is that adage more true than when shopping around for high-profile, high-margin smartphone hardware. For example, LG's modular G5 flagship can now be had for under $500, at least if you're willing to buy off eBay. A vendor there is selling the international unlocked version (model number H860) for $496 even, almost $200 off of the retail price at most carriers. Black, white, gold, and pink versions are available, and US residents in the lower 48 can swing free shipping too.

5 Things I Love About The LG G5

It's no secret that I'm not the LG G5's biggest fan - but that doesn't mean there aren't things I find myself liking, nay, loving, about LG's latest smartphone. Let's break down my top five for the G5.

#1: The wide-angle camera

Solution looking for a problem? OK, maybe, I guess - my colleague Liam Spradlin (sorry, Liam) kind of has it out for this dual-camera system, but I believe it's going to be a hugely fun feature for people who take a lot of smartphone photos. The two images below, I think, show you just what a difference the wide-angle lens can make when you're capturing a scene.

G5 SE Reviewed By Russian Blog Before Release, Expected To Be A Lite Version Of The G5

The LG G5 is available now, and while it's not garnering great reviews, LG appears to be pushing on with the whole replaceable module idea. Russian site [email protected] has been able to get ahold of the G5 SE, a lite version of the G5, and has reviewed the phone before its official release.

As was reported a few days ago, the G5 SE isn't that special; it's essentially a lower-spec version of the G5, packing less brunt for less money. The 4GB of RAM in the flagship has been downgraded to 3GB, while the new Snapdragon 820 has been similarly taken down a peg to the Snapdragon 652.

[Weekend Poll] Galaxy S7, LG G5, Or HTC 10?

This weekend's poll is a good old-fashioned smartphone shootout in the simplest of terms: whose 2016 flagship do you think ranks supreme?

Samsung's Galaxy S7 showed up on the scene first this year, and it made a big splash (waterproofing puns aside). By going the Apple route and offering the "same" phone in two different sizes, Samsung's also allowing consumers a choice that LG and HTC are not with the G5 and 10, and I see a lot of big-phone fans opting for the S7 edge as their most recent smartphone upgrade choice. (Our review.)

The LG G5, well, you know I'm not its biggest fan (review here), but LG has a fanbase, and at least some of those fans can see something in the G5 that puts it over the top of its competitors this year.

LG G5 Review: A Bit Of A Mess, Frankly

LG is a company whose smartphone products have gone from bottom of the barrel to highly competitive in under four years. Once the butt of bad phone jokes in the early days of Android, the company has lifted itself up into prominence in particular with the G Series, the originator of that lineage being the Optimus G.

The original G was a model for the Nexus 4 - the glass front and back blended a fairly bold design with modern and high-end components. LG's software really wasn't quite there yet, but they quickly stepped up their game with the G2 in the following year, and in the eyes of many fans perfected that formula in the G3.

AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon have already graciously started taking your money for the new LG flagship, and now it's T-Mobile's turn. Online G5 orders are live on the uncarrier today, and it appears to be a standard "order" not a "pre-order." We're only a few days away from the April 1st release, so that's not surprising.

[Weekend Poll] Are You Considering Purchasing An LG G5?

The LG G5 comes into 2016 the unabashed underdog to Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. While Samsung is refining its lineup - based on a largely successful reimagining in the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge+ of last year - with more practical benefits this time around (better camera, much better battery life), LG's smartphone identity seems more than a bit confused.

Last year's V10 was very successful with owners, especially those who didn't find what they wanted in the G4 (most people I've talked to with a V10 love it), but that phone doesn't quite ring as mainstream - it's a powerhouse of specifications and general capability.

We Have An LG G5, Ask Us Stuff About It (Q&A)

We've got an LG G5! But we can't review it. Because it's not done yet. LG has sent along a pre-production global version of the phone for us to "preview," so I'd like to know what you want to know about it. Questions about build, speed, software, and general thoughts about certain things are great! Questions about benchmarks, specific camera performance, and very specific battery life are much harder to answer just yet.
