Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our bi-weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got a big-budget (but free-to-play) zombie FPS, a game in which Snoop Dogg teaches you the ways of kung-fu fighting, a new version of a game that really didn't need a new version, and an infamous Flash game/exercise in frustration.
Sometimes, the modern world is just too much, you know? Video recording glasses and self-aware phones. It makes you miss the old days where when someone made you upset, you didn't bicker with them on Twitter. You just ran them through with your sword. That's the escapist fantasy that DevilDark: The Fallen Kingdom offers. The game is set in a medieval time when monsters roam the land and you have to gut them to win loot.
Ultima has been around forever. So it's only appropriate that the series' new mobile push incorporate the fact in its title... even if it is a bit on the nose. Ultima Forever: Quest For The Avatar is an upcoming top-down dungeon crawler set in the familiar Ultima universe, complete with online play and a massive amount of game time. According to a Polygon interview with the game's producer, getting to level 15 will take 200 hours, while getting to the end with everything will take closer to 400.
Turn based fantasy games have seen a bit of a resurgence recently, no doubt partly because it's easier to design a touchscreen UI where the action takes place in a menu rather than in wielding a sword. To wit: King's Bounty: Legions. This title gives players a set of characters to command in combat versus an enemy squad to conquer the game board.
The game has some pretty strong creative ties to Heroes of Might and Magic, as the man who designed the original Might and Magic, as well as the aforementioned spin-off, also worked on the first King's Bounty.
Hourblast Games and 6waves, the publisher of such hits as Strikefleet Omega and OFFWORLD, have released Dueling Blades, a fantasy RPG that combines strategy elements with social networking. What makes this game stand out from the mass of other similar titles is its interesting combat system that's described as "simultaneous turn strategy."
Forget ye old days of knights and nobility when you had to stick a dragon with a sword to slay the beast and win yonder fair lady. These days, medieval mythological warfare can be done via the comfort of your own phone. Dragon Slayer fulfills your fantasy by allowing you to engage in magical combat with a host of dragons, and dragon-like creatures.
As with most fantasy-based games, you can collect and upgrade equipment to become more efficient at ending the lives of rare, gargantuan reptiles.
Spacetime Studios, creator of hit game Pocket Legends, has released a new MMO for those of you who want to role play on the go: Dark Legends. In this vampire-themed game, you play as a demon of the night on the run as the world of humans has suddenly figured out that vampires are real. Apparently, in this world, smashing trucks, killing wildlife, and large-scale battles with wolves will inevitably end up on YouTube.
