LG may have made an ignoble exit from the smartphone market earlier this year, but as a gigantic international megacorp, it still has its hand in. LG Chem, the branch of the company that developers new materials and energy systems, has something that might turn the eye of their in-country rivals at Samsung: a new material that can bend like plastic while being hard as glass. The biggest question when it comes to folding devices is long-term durability. If and when things do go wrong, Samsung's customer support isn't quite as "premium" as the company claims. But adding fuel to that fire are a few new reports claiming screens are cracking due to cold weather. Read More
The first folding-screen Galaxy got off to a rough start when many units started failing left and right, halting its retail release for several months. It didn't turn out to be a smash hit even later, mainly due to its sky-high pricing. Samsung’s reincarnated flip phone for 2020 wasn’t a true successor to the Galaxy Fold, but it did help iron out some of the initial design complications and helped make foldables more affordable. Now a new report claims that the second generation of Samsung's ultra-premium foldable would take cues from both the Galaxy Z Flip and the recent S20 line. Read More

Motorola's announcement of the rebirth of the Razr was met with confusion, disbelief, and excitement. The folding smart phone in the nostalgic shell struck a chord, and demand exploded. You may remember way back in 2010 when Samsung first demonstrated a new flexible display technology, wowing onlookers and begging the question "what's the application?"

Specifically, Normura's Asian analysts have indicated that the manufacturer is expected to use foldable display technology to entirely eliminate the appearance of side bezels around a smartphone screen. The analysts added the display would be unbreakable, would enhance "the exceptionally thin form factor," and will debut some time in 2012. Read More
In a Galaxy Tab far, far away ... there is a 7" AMOLED panel. While other manufacturers are fretting over OLED panel shortages, no such difficulties seem to be presenting themselves to Samsung, as the screen display technology was out in full force at their FPD2010 booth today.
First up is the previously alluded to 7" panel, which appears to be a direct upgrade from the TFT panel used in the current Galaxy Tab. With the same 1024 x 600 resolution, applications should run fine on any potential new model, saving Samsung from any porting legwork with their bespoke apps. The screen also boasts more than 100% of the NTSC colour gamut, 16.7 million colours, and a brightness of 250 cd/m2. Read More
