Evleaks Revealed: Android Police's Exclusive Interview With Evan Blass, The Man Behind @evleaks

The Backstory

Unless you've been carefully monitoring your tech blog bylines for years (or are a devout and longtime Engadget / Pocketnow reader), you've probably never heard of a man named Evan Blass. This has actually been a good thing for Evan, who for over a year (with a long break during 2012) has operated the now quite-well-known @evleaks Twitter account, leaking various phones, tablets, and product names to an eager public.

Leak: Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Press Shots Show AT&T Branding, Possible June Release Date

The @evleaks Twitter account has become a surprisingly accurate source for pre-release hardware information, and the elusive Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is its latest target. The tipster revealed to The Unlockr that the ruggedized version of the S4 will be headed to AT&T's network in the near future, along with a handful of other Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S4 Mini, S III Mini, and the Galaxy Mega 6.3. Only the Active was shown with a convincing set of AT&T-branded press shots, so that's what we'll focus on.

evleaks Posts Photo Of Unknown LG Handset – 'G2? Just A Guess…'

If there's one thing that never goes out of style in the Android community, it's rumors. Oh, and leaks. Around Google I/O and "Nexus season," leaks and rumors abound. Some Nexus-related, some … not. Today, one of tech's most prolific leaksters, evleaks, let loose an image of an unspecified LG handset. Posting to Facebook, evleaks asked "G2? Just a guess…" as speculations began whirling.

The device, which has an undeniably sparse front side (of which the most interesting aspect is the speaker grill), bears all the normal sensors, no hardware keys or buttons, a huge screen, small bezels, and a sheet of glass that appears to feature a comfortable (yet subtle) curve on all sides.

NEC Terrain Tipped For AT&T: A QWERTY-Packing Candy Bar Coated With Confusion

If you've never heard of Japanese manufacturer NEC, don't worry, you're in good company. While the corporation has indeed been producing Android devices for years, some of which are quite unique and impressive, they haven't seen fit to expand most of their mobile hardware beyond Japan. (Note the complete lack of cellular devices on NEC's American page.) That's why it's so puzzling to see noted tipster @evleaks' latest break: the NEC Terrain for AT&T.

Leak: Verizon May Be Getting The LG Optimus F5 As The Lucid 2

Unwired View (courtesy of @evleaks) leaked a photo today of what rather inarguably looks like a new LG phone headed to Verizon. It also looks a lot like an Optimus F5 (with the addition of a menu capacitive button). UnwiredView claims the model number of this device will be VS870, and based on the specifications, it's definitely positioned at the low end of the middle-of-the-road.

LG-Lucid-2

It will likely pack the same dual-core Snapdragon processor as the F5, as well as Verizon's now-standard LTE connectivity, with the same qHD LCD display and 5MP rear camera of its international sibling.

The New HTC M7 Might Simply Be Called 'HTC One', Which Sounds Great

The rumors continue to fly about the HTC M7, which we expect will be announced before too long. The latest tidbit comes from the usually-reliable @evleaks. According to the ever-mysterious entity, the company's newest flagship will simply be called 'HTC One.' Nice and clean, just the way we like it.

This would diverge from HTC's previous naming scheme of having its most "high-end" phones bear the One moniker.

Evleaks Shows Off Press Shot Of HTC Droid DNA, Promises Early December Availability

Ever since the HTC J Butterfly was announced for Japan we've been wondering when that glorious 1080p display would be coming to US soil. We've seen leaks that indicate that the internals would be released here in a much more One X-looking case, and we're sure by this point that it will be called the Droid DNA. Now, everyone's favorite Twitter leakster (tweakster?) evleaks has dropped a press shot on us with the familiar name and promising an "early December" availability.

Leak: ZTE Warp Sequent Headed To Boost Mobile With Vanilla Android 4.0, May Be Grand X IN Variant

In a tweet earlier this evening, the recently resurrected evleaks Twitter account revealed what may be a variant of ZTE's Intel-powered Grand X IN phone which we saw at IFA 2012 headed for Boost Mobile.

It's definitely worth noting, though, that this ZTE Grand X IN (if that is what we're looking at) is a tad different from the original.

Images Surface Of Unnamed HTC Tablet, May Be Nothing More Than A Design Exercise

HTC has been sitting out the tablet game for a while now. After the monumental failure of the Flyer and the Jetstream, the Taiwanese manufacturer has kept its nose out of the slate market. If these images are to be believed, though, the company is at least considering new ideas. Some very strange ideas at that. The pictures show a tablet that has one abnormally large bezel area, while the three others are normal sized.
