The camera in Google's new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL looks to be its best yet

Last year's Pixel was found to be one of the best all-around smartphone cameras. In fact, according to Google, Pixel users take 2x more photos than iPhones, on average. The camera tradition looks to have continued with the latest series of Pixel phones. Of course, you all know what we think about DxOMark. But even so, it appears that the Pixel 2 scored an incredible 98 overall, making it the best phone camera (again) it's ever reviewed.

The OnePlus 5's new 4K EIS is incredible

If you can remember as far back as yesterday, you might recall that OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS v4.5.8, an update that was mostly identical to but slightly less buggy than the preceding 4.5.7. The headlining feature in both versions was a new EIS (electronic image stabilization) feature for 4K recording, a detail that was considered a significant omission by some reviewers. Fortunately for OnePlus 5 users everywhere, the EIS looks to be pretty fantastic.

Google Photos' video stabilization gets demoed, proves impressive

Yesterday, we found out in a teardown that version 2.13 of the Google Photos app brings video stabilization. This is a welcome addition, of course, as nobody enjoys watching shaky footage, but how well does it work? Thanks to some comparison videos that were shared on the net, we can now see that it's pretty damn impressive.

The Pixel and Pixel XL's cameras do not have optical image stabilization (OIS)

Considering the Pixel's score of 89 by DxOMark, Google is clearly pushing the camera as a major selling point. However, contrary to what was rumored and what was stated on Carphone Warehouse's spec sheets, Google's latest phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, do not have optical image stabilization (OIS) built into their main cameras.
