Duke Nukem 3D: Hail to the King Collection for Android has been canceled

Several years ago we learned that a port of the classic Duke Nukem 3D was coming to Android, courtesy of mobile games developer MachineWorks NorthWest. But that version of the game is no longer in the Play Store.

In January of 2015, news broke of another Duke Nukem Android port. To celebrate the 19th anniversary of the King, developer Voidpoint was faithfully re-creating the insanely fun adventures of Duke Nukem. Apparently the developer had acquired the rights to not only Duke Nukem 3D, but the expansions (Duke It Out in D.C., Duke Caribbean: Life’s a Beach, and Duke: Nuclear Winter), Duke Nukem 64, and the PlayStation’s Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown.

Painkiller: Purgatory Comes To Android, Lets You Relive The Early 2000s, FPS Style

Apparently, it's all the rage for developers to bring classic games to modern platforms. Games that used to require full PC setups or (then) powerful consoles now run perfectly on mobile devices, so resurrecting this "old tech" for a new generation seems like the perfect idea.

The developers behind the port of Duke Nukem 3D have brought another classic FPS (first person shooter) to Android: Painkiller: Purgatory. For the uninitiated, Painkiller is a throwback game from the early 2000s where you play the part of a young man trapped in Purgatory, trying to find his way to Heaven so he can be with his wife.

MachineWorks Kills Ads In Duke Nukem 3D Thanks To User Feedback

The arrival of Duke Nukem 3D in the Market yesterday caused quite a stir -- not due to the excitement of the retro first-person-shooter finally making its way to Android, though, but instead because of the developer's decision to include ads in a paid app without notifying users of their existence before they purchased.

It looks like MachineWorks, the development team behind the port, listened to user cries (and a whole slew of negative Market comments/bad ratings), as they just pushed an update to the app that removes all ads. That's community power, baby.

The update is available in the Market now, go ahead and grab it for some ad-free ass kicking.

Duke Nukem 3D Lands In The Android Market, Brings Back 1996 With Style

For the past two weeks, we've been chomping at the bit for some good, old fashioned 1991-style ass-kicking-action. The kind of retro goodness that takes you back to the days of old while simultaneously filling your blood-lust as you saving the Earth's women from being alien-abducted for purposes of breeding. Yeah, I'm talking about none other than Duke Nukem 3D.

The official port of DN3D landed in the Market earlier today, ready to rock your world on all "newer multi-touch devices." It's optimized for phones and tablets, boasts intuitive touch controls, and installs to SD by default. The $0.99 pricetag will get you Episode 1, but if that's not enough action for you, episodes 2 and 3 are both available via in-app purchasing.
