Google Nest is giving 100,000 Home Minis to people living with paralysis

The tagline for Google's smart home products, "A little help at home," resonates with many, but none more so than users with disabilities. The hands-free assistance offered by Google Home devices can go a long well to helping users feel more independent, and this is particularly true of people living with paralysis. Today, Google announced a partnership with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation that will see 100,000 Home Minis given out to improve even more lives.

Google Disability Support adds in-app Specialized Help section and live phone support

For over a year, Google's Disability Support team has answered questions about assistive features in Google products for users with disabilities. While previously you could only contact the support team through email, now Google's introducing a Specialized Help section in the Be My Eyes app, as well as phone support available 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday.

Google is working on native hearing aid support for Android

In partnership with Danish firm GN Hearing, Google is currently developing a protocol to enable native hearing aid support in Android. The open specification will allow users with hearing impairments to connect their aids to their phone for a better user experience.
