Android Q will feature per-app grayscale settings

Individual apps can be set to display in grayscale in Android Q, according to the Android Developers website. It's hard to tell how the new functionality will eventually be implemented, though, as it doesn't seem to be present in the newly-available beta release.

Daywise schedules your notifications to help you chill out and get more done

How often do you check your notifications? According to ActionDash, I receive about 500 notifications a day, unlocking my phone about 100 times, with half of these unlocks being for sessions shorter than a minute. These interruptions break my flow and reduce productivity levels, but my FOMO makes me check the phone anyway. There's a new app being tested to help deal with this: Daywise.

Digital Wellbeing is expanding to the Moto G7 series

Google started talking about Digital Wellbeing last year at Google I/O, but the feature never appeared in any of the pre-release Android P builds. Eventually, its surfaced as a beta feature on Pixel phones running Pie. Digital Wellbeing has slowly branched out to Android One phones, and the Galaxy S10 is supposed to have it as well. The next target, the Moto G7.

Google's Digital Wellbeing exits beta, is now version 1.0 [APK Download]

Google's Digital Wellbeing landed on the same day as Android Pie's formal release, bringing the means to better control how your phone fits into your life. At the time, it was billed as a beta, and though it has expanded to other Android One devices, that label continued to apply. At least, until now. [Update: Lenovo gets it] Smart displays will soon get multi-room audio, Home View, improved device control, and more

Google has just announced a "major" OTA update for all smart displays. Coming at the end of the month, the update will introduce some much-requested changes, such as multi-room audio grouping, as well as features shown off at the recent Made By Google event. That includes the Home View smart home device management; some trickle-over functionality from Digital Wellbeing; tighter Next Hello Doorbell integration; and new/improved control for devices including TVs, set-top boxes, speakers, and smart remotes — including the Logitech Harmony.

Digital Wellbeing features starting to arrive on Google Home speakers

The beta Android app is now available on Android One devices as well as Pixels, and it seems that Digital Wellbeing features are also coming to Google's smart speakers. As you can see from the image above, the Digital Wellbeing webpage has said it was "coming soon" for a while, and now people are reporting seeing it in their app.

If you're interested in understanding your smartphone usage and limiting the time you spend pointlessly scrolling through social networks, Digital Wellbeing can be a nice — if not perfect — tool in your arsenal. First announced at I/O 2018, this suite of phone control features remained a Pixel exclusive before starting to spread to more devices.
