Stream games from your console to your phone with the latest Xbox app beta

Microsoft formally launched its xCloud game streaming service last week, allowing users to stream console games right from their Android phones — and Android TVs, even if unofficially. Now the company is releasing a big update for the Xbox mobile app that includes brand new features, including the ability for everyone to stream console games to their phones with Xbox remote play.

Major Console Publishers Konami And Square Enix Announce New Mobile-First Strategies

If you owned a game console at any point in the last thirty years, you've probably at least heard of Konami, Squaresoft, and Enix. If you consider yourself a gamer, you probably know their major franchises by heart. Castlevania. Final Fantasy. Dragon Warrior. Metal Gear. Konami and Square Enix are giants of gaming, at one point standing toe-to-toe with companies like EA and Nintendo, dominating the console landscape and releasing some of the most beloved video games of all time.

The times, they are a changing.

[Update: Back On Amazon] LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga Touches Down In The Play Store, Still MIA From Amazon

[Update: Back On Amazon] LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga Touches Down In The Play Store, Still MIA From Amazon

If the response to the first Episode VII trailer was any indication, pop culture is going to be positively saturated with Star Wars between now and Christmas. If you're in the mood for a take on the original classic trilogy and the other, not-so-classic trilogy, LEGO is happy to oblige. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, originally released for consoles back in 2007, is now on the Play Store for $7.

LEGO's whimsical re-telling follows the basic plot of the movies in a sort of puppet show fashion, replacing most of the plot with charming slapstick comedy.

Disney's Infinity Digital Toys Finally Come To Android With The Toy Box 2.0 App

Disney's Infinity Digital Toys Finally Come To Android With The Toy Box 2.0 App

If you're not familiar with Disney Infinity, it's basically the media giant's answer to digital toys like Skylanders, Angry Birds Telepods, and Nintendo Amiibo. The gist is that you buy your kids RFID-enabled collectible statues, they stick 'em on a base station, and then they can use digital versions of those characters inside the Disney Infinity game. Is there a technical reason that a completely digital character needs a $15 hunk of physical plastic to unlock? Why certainly, so long as "technical reason" includes "making Disney a boatload of money."

The Infinity games are available on all major consoles and the PC.

Official PlayStation App Now Supports Tablets And Real Name Searches

Official PlayStation App Now Supports Tablets And Real Name Searches

Dedicated PlayStation 4 gamers have had Sony's official Android app to play around with for a while now, but apparently it hasn't been optimized for use on tablets before today. You might think that's strange, seeing as Sony, well, makes tablets, but the various hardware, software, and digital content arms of Sony are somewhat disjointed. That tends to happen in gigantic international corporations. In any case, the 2.0 update to Sony's PlayStation is now available in the Play Store.

In addition to formal support for tablets, the homescreen has been redesigned, though you might have to look twice to notice.

Skylanders Trap Team Brings The 'Real' Skylanders Experience To Android, But Only A Few Tablets Are Invited

Skylanders Trap Team Brings The 'Real' Skylanders Experience To Android, But Only A Few Tablets Are Invited

Update: We've checked out the Play Store page on various AP writers' accounts, and apparently the game is now marked as incompatible with everything, including the hardware listed in the description. At this point I'm guessing that the Android app was published prematurely, and this will change on the multi-platform release date for Trap Team, which is October 5th in the United States.

There have been three Skylanders-branded games published on the Play Store so far, Battlegrounds, Cloud Patrol, and Lost Islands. All of them count as Skylanders games, in that they make use of the ubiquitous plastic toys as digital characters.

GameStop's Android App Has Been Updated With An Interface That's Much Less Awful

GameStop's Android App Has Been Updated With An Interface That's Much Less Awful

As a dedicated gamer and a former cash-starved teenager, please listen to me: don't shop at GameStop. The ubiquitous American video game retailer is almost certain to overcharge for software and hardware, underpay you for trade-ins, and try to squeeze three preorders and a Game Informer subscription out of you before you leave. But for those misguided souls who insist on giving them custom (or who live in a city with no retail alternatives), the official GameStop app has been notably updated today.

The update text on the Play Store simply says "everything," and based on cached images of the previous version, that's not an understatement.

Destiny Planet View Lets You Find Wizards On The Moon In A Google Street View Interface

Destiny Planet View Lets You Find Wizards On The Moon In A Google Street View Interface

If you're even remotely interested in high-end gaming, you've probably heard of Destiny, also known as "that shooting MMO game that's kinda like Halo from the people who made Halo." The marketing team for Destiny has decided to team up with Google to create an interesting way for excited players (or prospective players) to check out the environments of the game. It's called Destiny Planet View, and it blasts the Google Street View interface into the solar system for a look at some fictional alien worlds.

The moon, Mars, and Venus are all populated with pre-rendered environments from Destiny laid out in Street View's signature style.

Official PlayStation App Updated With Push Notifications And Profile Photo Uploads

Official PlayStation App Updated With Push Notifications And Profile Photo Uploads

Attention, gamer: your PlayStation playmates can now goad you into multiplayer matches anytime, anywhere. Well, they can if you've got the latest version of the official PlayStation Android app. Last night's update added push notifications for the PSN game-centric social network, according to the official PlayStation blog.

The bad news is that this feature seems to be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and certain games, at least at the moment. The good news is that you can turn them off. Supported notifications include game alerts (for some titles), friend requests, and invitations. Of course, you won't be able to do much about them unless you happen to be at home when you get the alert.
