[New App] EA Posts Need For Speed Network Companion App On The Play Store

EA just loves its companion apps, and despite the fact that this one is two behind the release of 2013's Need For Speed Rivals, I'm sure that at least a few racing game fans will appreciate it. Need For Speed Network is a combination social network and second screen app for the aforesaid game, and it's compatible with PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC versions.

[New App] MTV Releases A Full Episode App, But Cable Cord-Cutters Need Not Apply

"I want my MTV" was the promotional slogan that Music Television used to get itself onto just about every American cable company. Twenty years later the network seems to have just about anything except music on its lineup, but if you still want it, the new official app can deliver MTV's programming right to your Android phone. The self-titled MTV app grants access to current shows in an on-demand setup, but only if you already pay for cable or satellite TV.

[New App] Garmin VIRB App Controls And Records Video From Garmin's GoPro Camera Competitor

There are a lot of self-styled "action cameras" out there, most of which are trying to catch at least some of the thunder of the wildly popular GoPro. GPS specialist Garmin has thrown its hat in the ring with VIRB, a deluxe, ruggedized, mountable HD video camera with a plethora of bells and whistles. Like the competition, the Garmin VIRB now has an official Android app for remote control, viewfinding, and recording.

[New Game] EA Blurs The Lines Between Mobile Game And Companion App With Battlefield 4 Commander

You can't release a AAA console game these days without also releasing a mobile app. For some reason. If you're looking for a way to actually play your big fancy shooter game on your tablet... well, this isn't really it, but it's close. The Battlefield 4 Commander app lets BF4 players coordinate their squad and hand out extra supplies during live Battlefield games.

Once you reach level 10 on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, or PC version of Battlefield 4, you gain access to the Commander app, which mirrors the Commander mode in the full game.

[New App] Ubisoft's Uplay Service Gets An Android App, So It Can Annoy You On Your PC And Phone At The Same Time

Everybody loves proprietary gaming platforms that make you sign in to play Far Cry, right? Hello? Well they're here to stay, whether you like them or not (thanks EA, Microsoft, Valve, and the rest of 'em) and Ubisoft is trying to make its proprietary service a little less awful with the official Uplay app. It's available now to gamers on the Play Store.

Redesigned Nest Thermostat App Adds Nest Protect Functionality, Landscape Support, Push Notifications, And More

The Nest Learning Thermostat gets a major update to its Android app today, mostly to add support for the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector. The Protect now ties into the Android app (assuming you have one, of course) with status checks for both sensors and multiple units in your connected home. You can add new thermostats or smoke detectors right from the app.
