You know, I for one am not a fan of free-to-play cash grabs that take advantage of popular brands. There used to be a time when Disney released paid games on the Play Store that weren't designed to pilfer children's pockets with gambling mechanics, but those days are long gone. Another one bites the dust. MixRadio, we hardly knew ya on Android. The service, which started as Nokia's Comes With Music in 2007 then was renamed to Nokia MixRadio and just MixRadio after Microsoft's acquisition, was later bought by LINE in March of 2015. After that, it went through a wide expansion, launching Android and iOS apps in May, joining the Apple Watch, Amazon, and Tizen platforms, and even starting web clients for Windows and Mac. It looked like things were going well for MixRadio, especially with its growing popularity in India and Indonesia, and over 5M installs on the Play Store. Read More
There has been quite an uproar as of late over Google's handling of the source code for Honeycomb, their most recent version of Android. The company announced this week that it would be delaying the release of the Honeycomb source in order to iron out some issues, specifically ones involving running it on small-screen devices (i.e. phones). Andy Rubin gave an explanation as to why these issues exist:
Android 3.0, Honeycomb, was designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes and improves on Android favorites such as widgets, multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization...We didn't want to think about what it would take for the same software to run on phones.
Found at the top of reddit's Android page today is this comic comparing the openness of Android to the closed ecosystem of Apple's iPhone and iOS. It warranted an immediate tweet, but since tweets are very short-lived, I decided to have it take a more permanent place on our site.
