Not long ago, 2K Games and Aspyr Media released a full port of Civilization VI for Android. While it took over two years longer to arrive than the iOS port, it was definitely worth the wait. Not only is Civ VI for Android fully functional, it's a rare PC to smartphone port that really, really works. And it's now one of my favorite smartphone games.
Sid Meier's Civilization series has been a mainstay on PCs since the first game's release in 1991, though developer Firaxis has occasionally dabbled in console and mobile titles. The last game to make an appearance on Android was Civilization Revolution 2 in 2014, a simplified version of the usual Civ formula, but now a full-blown port of the latest main game has arrived on Android.
A trio of titles from 2K games have been discounted significantly in the Play Store, making it a good time to jump on the bandwagon if you haven't already. Civilization Revolution 2, the latest in the Android entries from the Sid Meier franchise, has been reduced by $10 to $4.99. XCOM: Enemy Within, a standalone expansion to its popular XCOM predecessor, is also at $4.99 (an $8 discount). Last but not least, NHL 2K can be had for just $2.99, down from $7.99.
Each of these games has more than solid reviews, but XCOM: Enemy Within stands out in that regard with a 4.5 average rating.
If you're a fan of strategy games, you had a very good month in November. In addition to soft strategy like Kingdom Rush: Origins and Godus, you've got new entries in the XCOM and Civilization series, not to mention the very impressive newcomer The Banner Saga. There are also some respectable entries in what you might call the casual genre (if you weren't busy swearing at some of the higher levels in The Blocks Cometh), and we've added a few honorable mentions as well.
The Civilization games on PC have consistently been the gold standard for 4X strategy, and the abbreviated Revolution versions for iOS have been widely praised for successfully distilling that formula for a mobile device. We didn't see the first Civ Rev on Android, but the sequel has just launched in the Play Store. Civilization Revolution 2 can be yours right now, but it comes with a hefty price tag.
Civilization Revolution 2 is a turn-based strategy game that offers you the opportunity to build an empire outdoes all the others. You get to choose from a variety of historical leaders like Lincoln, Bismarck, Lenin, and more.
Android users who are fans of Sid Meier's classic games Pirates! and Civilization now have something to look forward to – it appears hat GREE and 2K Games have teamed up to bring the beloved sim/strategy games to the mobile world.
The companies' statement indicated that the games would be available as "social titles on select global markets," evidently starting with Japan.
“Creating social mobile games based on the Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Sid Meier’s Civilization franchises are our way to connect with Japanese fans in a fun and innovative way,” said Fabien Siouffi, Vice President Online and Social at Take-Two Asia.
