Bubblesoft's BubbleUPnP is fast becoming a one-stop shop for streaming to media centers and set-top boxes. In addition to a wide range of features which we've already highlighted, today's 1.8 update adds native streaming to Google's Chromecast. The app can stream Chromecast-supported file formats (P3, AAC, Vorbis, MP4 and MKV H264, images) almost instantly and without any sort of limit. Transcoded files for the Chromecast will require a desktop app on your local network.

Google Play Music Labs Adds A Fireplace Visualizer For Your Chromecast, Barry White Not Included

Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and you know what that means: bitter disappointment fruitlessly displaced with technology. (That might just be me.) Google's got you covered on the second part, at least if you have a Chromecast. A new visualizer option for Google Play Music ditches the bars and equalizers in favor of a looped video of a cozy fireplace. You'll have to supply your own music, of course.

The visualizer isn't on by default, but it's easy enough to enable.

What’s New

My Devices interface

Most importantly, today's update finally adds the ability to manage and deauthorize devices without having to go to the web interface - a feature we've longed for ever since discovering the 10-device limitation. While 10 devices may seem like a lot, once you factor in a few rounds of phone upgrades, various tablets lying around the house, and Google TV, you may just find yourself running into the limit soon.

[Bug Watch] Duplicate Entries And Unsupported Devices Appearing As Casting Targets With Google Play Services 4.2.39 [Update: Partially Fixed]

The Google Cast SDK is only just escaping its confines as a developer preview, so it’s not surprising to see a few bugs turning up in some odd places. [Weekend Poll] Do You Have A Chromecast? Did You Have To Buy It From A 3rd Party / Import It?

Google made a whole lot of folks happy this week, particularly Chromecast owners, by finally opening up the SDK for the media stick to the public.

This means some of your favorite apps will likely be receiving updates in the near (or not so near, as the case may be) future allowing them to stream content to your television through your Chromecast. Exciting times, indeed. Support for the API on the user end was implemented in the recent Play Services 4.2 update, so you should be able to start using those apps that have already added Chromecast support immediately.

AllCast Regains Chromecast Support Less Than A Day After The Release Of The Google Cast SDK

AllCast pushes locally stored videos and photos to various AirPlay/DLNA connected devices such as Smart TVs, the Xbox 360 (and the Xbox One), Roku boxes, and, originally, the Chromecast. Ultimately, Google released an update that broke AllCast's Chromecast support. But the company finally released the Google Cast SDK yesterday, and then, after getting prodded by a member of the Google Chomecast team to re-add support for Chromecast, Koushik Dutta returned the functionality to his app in supposedly under 20 minutes of work.
