So maybe you missed that mega Moto X deal last month – that's okay. Motorola still really wants you to buy a Moto X. The price was permanently knocked down by $100 last week, and now Motorola is sweetening the pot even more with a free Chromecast for a limited Time.
The deal is only valid through 11:59pm ET on January 14th. All you have to do is add a Chromecast to your cart containing a 16 or 32GB Moto X and enter the code STREAM. Read More
One has to wonder: what's the point of a sale on a proverbially cheap item? And the obvious answer is, it's five bucks you wouldn't have otherwise had. So it is with Google's Chromecast streaming HDMI dongle, which has once again gone on sale at both Amazon and Best Buy. You can pick one up for $29.99 at either retailer, with free shipping for Prime members at the former and free shipping for everyone at the latter. Read More
If you missed out on November's Chromecast deals but still want to pick up the mighty-yet-inexpensive streaming accessory, good news - Best Buy is once again offering the Chromecast for just $29.99, about five dollars (and one cent) off its normal super-affordable price of $35. What's more, BB will give you free shipping, available for delivery by the 24th.
It doesn't appear that the previous deal's Google Play credit offer applies this time around, but saving five bucks is always nice. Read More
For many of us, it's getting cold outside. While there's always the option to invest in a thicker coat, bundle up in more blankets, or crank up the thermostat, none of these options particularly involve Android (with some exceptions). So here's another approach. Fire up YouTube on your Android device of choice and load up this YouTube channel. Send it out to the nearest Chromecast and you have yourself a warm fire that will burn for the next hour or so. Read More
Google has really been on a roll this week with exciting news for developers, such as a pair of new game-related libraries and enhancements to Google+ Sign-in. This time around, Chromecast is getting its turn with a brand new User Experience Guide. Coming just 2 days after some new apps were added to the whitelist, this 4000-word document details the recommended design patterns developers should follow while implementing their own Android, iOS, and web applications. For a limited time, Google is giving out $35 in Play Store credit to anyone in the US who buys both a Nexus 7 and a Chromecast. If there are enough things you want from the Play Store to spend $35 bucks on, then this deal is similar to buying a Nexus 7 with a bunch of content and getting a Chromecast tossed in for free.
This offer is valid with any Nexus 7, so don't let that deter you from filling up that shopping cart. Read More
The Chromecast launched last summer with a lot of promise, but very limited app support. We've been limping along these last few months with only the occasional addition like Pandora and HBO Go to keep us going. Well, now the floodgates are beginning to open. Google just announced 10 new apps are launching with Chromecast support, and some of them are super-exciting.
To wrap up the year, TIME's been working on a "Top Ten of Everything 2013" series, listing off the top ten items in various categories from Pop Culture and Social Media to, of course, tech gadgets. In that category, TIME listed things like the LEAP Motion controller, Oculus Rift Developer's Kit, and new iPads, but they awarded the top spot to Google's plucky Chromecast dongle.
The piece, published Tuesday and shared by Larry Page on Google+ this evening, lauds the Chromecast's focus - it essentially only does one thing but does it so well, makes it so easy, and costs so little, that picking one up is really hard to resist. Read More
If you love the idea of Chromecast but wish it worked with locally-stored media, then Koush's AllCast may be a solution. It doesn't actually stream media to Chromecast, but it does have support for Roku, Apple, TV, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Samsung Smart TVs, Panasonic Smart TVs, WDTVs, and DLNA Renderers, so if you have one of those, then you're set.
Koush has been testing the beta application from his Google+ page for the past few weeks, but now he's created a beta testers group and released the app to Google Play, which means it's edging its way towards completion. Read More
The Chromecast is already a pretty fantastic deal at $35, but less is always more when it comes to price. Both Best Buy and Amazon are offering the streaming dongle for $29.99. You still get the $6 credit for Google Play movie rentals from either retailer, so you won't be wanting for something to watch when you plug it in.
Google has been pushing the Chromecast hard as of late, adding a special section for Chromecast to the on-device Google Play Store to highlight the apps that can take advantage of it. Read More
