Chromebooks get native Apple Music support

Chromebooks are growing in popularity, thanks to their ease of use and straight to the point design. It's easy to get things done using Chrome OS, especially thanks to built-in support for Sheets and Docs, but many of us also like to enjoy some music while working. Up until now, Spotify and Google Play Music worked natively on the platform, but Apple Music users were left out. Although it was still possible to play your favorite tracks through an unofficial web player, the app itself wasn't compatible with Chromebooks, which prevented you from using offline mode. The software was just updated on the Play Store, though, and now brings official support for Chrome OS.

Microsoft's answer to Chromebooks may be 'Lite OS'

Microsoft has tried for years to stop the rapid market share growth of Chromebooks. First, the company tried to optimize Windows has much as it could, allowing it to (somewhat) run on cheap Atom-based tablets and laptops. Microsoft later released Windows 10 'S', which couldn't run traditional Windows apps. Now it seems the company is going even further, by developing a whole new operating system — Lite OS.

Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630 (4K) review: A powerhouse with mediocre battery life

Back at IFA 2018, we managed to grab a quick hands-on with Lenovo's Yoga Chromebook 4K. Intended for those who like large 15.6" laptops and want an ultra high-res display, the Yoga Chromebook C630 packs some impressive specs that put it right up there with the Acer Spin 13 and Pixelbook. All of that comes in a beautiful chassis for under $1,000. Suffice to say, we were impressed.

Audio support is coming to Linux apps with Chrome OS 74

I've come to love using my Pixelbook over the last few months, thanks in part to support for Linux applications. Though it's still in its beta stages, I find it incredibly useful. Interestingly, it seems that Google is looking to address one of the limitations: the lack of audio playback for container programs. Based on a some official Project Crostini documents, we might see support for this in Chrome OS 74.

Daisy-chaining monitors on Chromebooks via MST currently being tested for upcoming hardware

If you frequently use your laptop with more than one external display, there's a feature called MST (or Multi-Stream Transport) that conveniently allows you to use just one cable to connect them all to your computer, rather than two or three. Up until now Chrome OS hasn't supported MST, but based on a recent commit to the Chromium Gerrit, that could change.

New Chrome OS bug causes high CPU usage every time you check CPU usage, understands irony

Early adopters are used to dealing with bugs (or they should be), but once in a while a hidden problem can trickle down into stable, though rarely are they so funny as this. Some folks are running into issues with Chrome OS Stable v72 and later releases, resulting in crazy high CPU use. The twist? This problem only occurs in very particular, self-fulfilling circumstances: while you have the task manager open.

Last month we spotted that Instant Tethering — a feature which allows your Chromebook to easily ride your phone's data connection when Wi-Fi isn't available — was appearing on at least a handful of non-Pixel/Nexus phones. It would appear that was an early test, as today Google is formally announcing that Instant Tethering is rolling out to 15 new Chromebooks and 30 new phones.

Lenovo's 4K Yoga Chromebook C630 is now available for $900, 1080p with backlit keyboard for $720

Back at IFA last year, Lenovo announced that it would be releasing a premium Chromebook, which got a bunch of us excited. Dubbed the Yoga Chromebook, it impressed with its clean visuals and promising spec list and price tag. The base i3/1080p model was available back in October for a mere $599.99, but the 4K configuration was yet to be seen. Well, Lenovo sneakily put it up for purchase, along with a new 1080p variant.
