It's been a while since Chrome for desktop introduced support for tab groups. The feature helped bring order to chaos for those who had a habit of keeping umpteen tabs open. After being tested since 2019 on Android, the feature is now rolling out on the mobile platform as well. The update also brings a grid tab switcher to Chrome.
We've been talking about it from the coal mine to the beta stage to its release last week. Now, Google is bringing life into Chrome 77 with server-side updates to a few existing features and the introduction of a couple others that will roll out over this season — from new ways to manage your tabs to new, simple themes, here's what's being flagged in this gradual roll-out.
We've known for a while that the Chrome team was working on tab groups. The feature first showed up in Canary on the desktop, but it's now made its way to Android, also in the Canary channel. It's hidden behind a flag though, and works... sort of.
