TiVo introduces the TiVo Stream 4K powered by Android TV

TiVo first made a name for itself in the late 90's when the company introduced a revolutionary digital video recording device that automatically saved TV shows for viewing later. Since then, TiVo has steadily dipped its toes into various products and services, like live TV via TiVo Online, TiVo Cast for streaming videos, and more. This decade, TiVo is branching out with a Sling-connected content streaming device powered by Android TV.

Bluetooth LE Audio promises better sound, reduced power consumption, and multi-stream audio support

Bluetooth audio accessories market kicked into high gear as headphone jacks began disappearing, and soon got flooded with more options than ever. While the Bluetooth 5.0 standard brought significant functional improvements even to the cheapest earbuds, the Bluetooth SIG wants to make further strides with LE Audio. The upcoming wireless standard will keep power consumption in check using a new lower-power codec, while also adding multi-stream audio and native support for hearing aids.

Google announces scheduled actions for Assistant, plus a handful of other new features

As part of its CES announcements, Google is taking the wraps off a bunch of new and upcoming Assistant functionality, like the ability to schedule actions, a new "Read It" command that dictates text content like news in a more natural voice, plus new Smart Display features like sticky notes and speed dial. While much of it won't land until a nebulous date "later this year," it gives us a peek at what to expect from the Assistant in 2020, and a reference for when Google re-announces half of it as new later once it's been in silent public testing for a couple months.

Scosche jams an air freshener into its car mounts so it can sell subscriptions

Last year at CES 2019, Scosche announced the MagicMount Charge3, a car mount that hooks into your car's air vent to keep a phone locked steadily in place. Unlike similar products, the MagicMount was designed so neither the mount or the phone would obstruct airflow from the vents, plus it supported wireless charging for your phone. This may sound like the holy grail of car mounts, but this year Scosche added the one thing that was obviously missing: an air freshener.

Just a few days ago, a product listing for the then-unannounced Skagen Falster 3 smartwatch with Google's Wear OS showed up on Amazon. The watch has now officially been revealed at CES, and it's more or less a Fossil Gen 5 in a different casing — which is certainly a good thing.

Mobvoi announces TicPods 2 Pro earbuds with AI voice and motion controls in addition to 'Tickle touch'

The TicPods Free true wireless earbuds were among the best in the category when I reviewed them more than a year ago. There's been a lot of innovation from other manufacturers in that time, so they're due an update, and that's what Mobvoi has announced today at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. We're getting not one, but two new sets, and there are some really interesting AI features on the more expensive variant.

Google Play Movies will support HDR10+ content soon

Google Play Movies is still one of the best ways to purchase movies and TV shows online, thanks to its integration with YouTube purchases and support for Movies Anywhere. However, the service has been slow to adopt new technology. HDR compatibility didn't start rolling out until 2017, and support for the HDR10+ standard (which was created in 2017) is still missing — but not for much longer.

The OnePlus Concept One is very, very orange

When OnePlus announced it would unveil a concept smartphone at CES this week, speculation ran rampant. Could it be a foldable? A first look at the OnePlus 8? Some new form factor or extreme design exploration? Well, then we learned it was actually... none of those things. It was a phone wrapped in leather with disappearing camera lenses. I took a quick look at the Concept One here in Las Vegas yesterday, and I can confirm that's what we got. Also, that it is very, very orange.

It is a bit puzzling at first blush; why is OnePlus making so much noise about a phone which you'll never be able to buy and which features a technology which, to be blunt about it, no one was asking for?
