Ever since Android was released, there have been attempts to build it into appliances. None of these products have kicked off the era of smart appliances we've all been dreaming about, but Dacor is back at CES this year with yet another Android-powered appliance in its Discovery iQ series. The Discovery iQ 48” Dual-Fuel Range has a 7-inch Android 4.0 tablet built right into the front panel.
CES 2012 is big. Like, really big. In fact, it's the second largest ever. The CEA is very proud of their gigantic trade show, and they've sent us some statistics to celebrate.
As CES comes to a close, we look back at the new devices we've seen - some were expected, some came from out-of-nowhere, and others were just downright impressive. Verizon Wireless and Motorola just took the wraps off the new Droid RAZR - the Droid RAZR MAXX, a familiar name we saw leaked a few weeks ago. The RAZR MAXX contains the following changes compared to the original:
Of course, the biggest feature on any DROID is the keyboard, and you can rest assured, the DROID 4's does not disappoint. Key spacing and action were both great, and the praise Motorola has received for its keyboards on previous iterations of the device obviously hasn't made them complacent.
How many times have you dropped a phone in water? A puddle, bucket, bathtub, lake, toilet (don't act like it doesn't happen)... whatever. Phone attracting bodies of water are seemingly everywhere, and unless you're willing to put your phone in a ginormous waterproof case, once that beautiful piece of tech meets the life-affirming liquid substance, it's usually hosed (but sometimes rice can help).
ASUS isn't the only one upgrading their tablets to Ice Cream Sandwich in the beginning of February - we were running around the South Hall at CES 2012 and ran into Archos, which, among other things, manufactures a whole series of G9 tablets (various combinations of 101 and 80).

Philips Announces GoGear Connect 3.5 Media Player And New Line Of 'Made For Android' Headsets
First off, let's talk about the GoGear Connect 3.5 media player. We don't have much information on this device yet, but we do know that it's the latest Wi-Fi-enabled touch screen MP4 player from Philips. It runs on Gingerbread and will likely see a custom interface overlay from Philips. The device will offer access to hundreds of thousands of apps from the Android Market, as well as Skype communication with a front-facing camera, 720p HD video playback on a 3.5" screen, and sound enhancing technology.
We stopped by the Sony booth earlier this morning at CES, and got some hands-on time with the very first Sony smartphones (Sony-Ericsson is no more, subject to regulatory approval) - the Xperia Ion and the Xperia S. While these devices were designed before the Sony Ericsson breakup, they'll be marketed as Sony devices when they hit retail channels.

The folks at Polaroid recognize this, so they decided to throw together an Android-powered camera -- a cool idea, no doubt.
