Harry Potter: Magic Awakened beginner's guide — How to get started in the world of Hogwarts

All of the basics the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry doesn't cover

Warner Bros. has concocted an intriguing collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, now globally available across Android, iOS, and PC. Our initial impressions of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened are positive, so it's only natural to push the title toward the top as one of the most anticipated games to land on Android in 2023. It has already seen a limited global release to prepare for the wider launch, and all of this testing has paid off.

Harry Potter Magic Awakened review: No joke, it's actually good

While there are flaws, the CCG's bucketloads of charm more than make up for them

Harry Potter games are in a strange place right now. Hogwarts Legacy, which dominated the charts earlier this year, offered mediocre and uninspired gameplay, and things are even worse when we turn to mobile. From Niantic's failed AR game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, to the grim cash grab that is Zynga's Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, things aren't exactly bright on our phones. However, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened bucks this trend by showing how a Harry Potter game should be, packing the charm and wonder of the universe into every inch of the title.

This card-based RPG might not be open-world, but it oozes tons of Harry Potter charm

More than a year after we went hands-on with an early English version of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, the game is now available worldwide. It's taken a while to get to this point; after launching in China and Taiwan in 2021, the game soft-launched in select countries three months ago, ahead of its worldwide release. Surprisingly, it's a remarkable game, showing levels of polish and detail absent in AAA console releases like Hogwarts Legacy, which we explore more in our Harry Potter: Magic Awakened review.

Marvel Snap officially launches in its first region, bringing a new season to the collectible card game

If you were in the closed beta, your progress will carry over

Marvel Snap was revealed in May, a collectible card game from Hearthstone's former director Ben Brode. The game entered into closed beta testing at the time of its announcement across a handful of regions, and it would appear that the Philippines is the first region to see an official launch, rolling out today to everyone in the country on both Android and iOS (the game is even coming to PC, but at a later date). Today's launch also ushers in a new season, Atlantis Beach Club, offering an appropriate summer theme where you'll explore Atlantis with heroes like Wave, Cosmo, and of course, Sub-Mariner. There's even a new video to accompany the launch and new season, which you can watch below.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel may have landed on Android later than other platforms, but seeing that the game has been available on the Play Store for the last two weeks, it would appear that it's time to kick off the very first post-launch event. The limited-time Xyz Festival brings with it special Duel instructions, a new solo mode, as well as a new Structure Deck. The event will run from February 17th until the 24th, and those who sign in during this event will be rewarded with extra Gems and a festival bonus.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened hands-on — F2P has no business being this good

I'm talking Genshin levels of polish here, high-quality stuff

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is a collectible card game from NetEase that's found massive popularity in China and other Asian territories since its initial launch last year. Seeing that it made over $228 million in its first two months, the game is coming West. The English version is in testing now that's it's available for pre-registration, and so I sideloaded the title to test the gameplay while recording a lengthy gameplay video to share with everyone.

The latest version of the decades-old card battle game Magic: The Gathering has been in testing for a few months, with an early access open for at least some countries. Now that's over, and MTG: Arena should be available in many more regions on the Google Play Store. Go get your spells on.

Wizards of the Coast finally brings its collectible card game to mobile

Over the years, we've seen a plethora of collectible card games come and go. Though one thing has remained a constant, the genre lends itself well to mobile play. To this day, there's still no shortage of CCGs on the Play Store, and yet there was always one title that was missing, Magic: The Gathering. Well, Wizards of the Coast has been busy working on its digital adaptation for a while now, and it's called MTG Arena. It's been known the title would eventually make its way to mobile, but we've just learned that the CCG will be coming to Android as an early access release on January 28th, with broader support slated for later this year.

SEGA is working on a Total War CCG, and it's already in closed beta on Android

Just what we need, yet another F2P collectible card game

Today SEGA has revealed Total War: ELYSIUM, an upcoming collectible card game for mobile and PC, and it's clearly themed around Creative Assembly's Total War strategy series. Today also marks the unveiling of a closed beta test for Android users, as well as the release of a trailer that provides a first look at gameplay footage. As you would expect, Total War: ELYSIUM will offer tactical card-based gameplay, where players will strive to build decks out of the game's many cards, all so that they can rule with an iron fist over the battlefield.

Monolisk recently arrived on the Play Store as a pre-registration release, and I couldn't help but notice how good it looks, which is why I'm writing this very article. The game is described as a fantasy mobile ARPG, CCG, and dungeon builder, all wrapped up in a single package, which sounds interesting enough, but clearly, the art design takes center stage here.

Another year, another 2K companion app slash collectible NBA themed card game. That's right, the console and PC release of NBA 2K19 is just around the corner, so in preparation for the release, 2K has published the MyNBA2K19 companion app on the Play Store. The thing is, it's not just a companion app for an AAA sports game, as it also offers a collectible card battling game that you can play on any compatible Android device. So get ready to collect your favorite NBA superstars from the past and present.

Bethesda's collectible card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends has a brand new expansion available. It's called Houses of Morrowind, and it brings 149 new cards that have been designed to capture the essence of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. This expansion also introduces 5 new mechanics to master and three new puzzle sets to test your wits on. So prepare yourself, because it looks like this journey to Vvardenfell brings a lot of new and interesting changes to the game.

Valve has apparently been working with known Magic: The Gathering designer Richard Garfield since 2014 to come up with an all-new game for PC, consoles, and mobile. It is called Artifact, and it's a Dota 2-themed collectible card game that looks like it will be Valve's answer to Hearthstone. The console and PC release dates are scheduled for the end of 2018, but the sad news is that it will not be hitting Android until mid-2019.

2K is back again with this year's version of MyNBA2K. As always, this collectible NBA themed card game is available as a companion app to the ever popular console version of NBA 2K18. You can expect an all new redesign to the app, along with 300 new cards for the NBA’s 2017-2018 season.
